Abstract: Oil is delivered by a single pumping means to an application header which extends across the path of movement of an electrically grounded metal strip requiring oiling. A perforated plate within the header divides it into two chambers and forms a diffuser between the two chambers to assure an even distribution of oil in the chamber which receives its oil by passage through the diffuser. The perforated plate also forms a charging electrode for oil filling the header and serves a third purpose in that it is a final filter for the oil passing through the header. The header has oil delivery orifices or a continuous delivery slot leading from the chamber of the header which faces the metal strip. Oil is attracted in small discrete streams onto the surface of the grounded strip traveling in near proximity to the header and the strip is uniformly coated with oil across its full width. Excess oil is recovered and returned to the pumping means for recycling in the system.
Abstract: A solar-powered lighting system suitable for signs or hoardings (10), navigation beacons or as an emergency supply for hotels, cinemas, hospitals or other services. The system incorporates solar cell arrays (17) which generate electricity which is stored in batteries (22). A sensing circuit (14) selectively connects the batteries (22) to lights (14). A timing/switching circuit (32), (32a) may be provided to selectively connect the lights (14) to a mains supply (30).
Abstract: A connector for a multi-conductor circuit is disclosed which includes a base having a longitudinal cavity defining a plurality of seats whose spacing is equal to the distance between the centers of the conductors of a multi-conductor circuit. Pairs of springs, one pair for each seat, are connected to prongs emerging from the base, at least one spring of each pair being resiliently displaceable toward the other spring. A cover insertable into the cavity of the base includes a central longitudinal slot bounded by two resilient ledges through which a multi-conductor circuit is introduced. The ledges of the cover approach each other on insertion of the cover into the base and clamp the sheath of the multi-conductor circuit, at least one of the ledges having an extension for displacing one spring of each pair toward the opposing spring.
Abstract: Sliding doors of increased strength, stability and resistance to the elements include on the normally inactive sliding door panel top and bottom vertical axis locking bolts which engage in apertures at the top of the door frame and sill. An intermediate level swinging bolt on the active sliding door panel is used in conjunction with an adjacent anti-lift tab also on the active sliding door panel. This tab and the locking extension of the swinging bolt are received in apertures formed in the adjacent stile of the inactive door panel to achieve secure locking of the sliding panels in closed positions. All of the bolts of the system are disposed within the opposing interfitting vertical stiles of the active and inactive sliding panels adjacent to tongue and groove portions thereof. The locking arrangement can be utilized on sliding door systems containing four or more panels.
Abstract: A calendar device includes first and second distinct cooperative sections. In the first section, calendar years are arranged in several groups and each group of years is designated by a character or marking to distinguish it from the other groups. In the second calendar section, an indicator for each day of each month is accompanied by indications of the names of the seven weekdays, and adjacent to the weekday indications are the characters or markings which identify years in the several groups of the first calendar section.
Abstract: A ski boot consists of a foot portion and a leg portion connected in articulated relationship. A stiffening element at the front of the boot formed of resilient material has substantially the profile of the boot and is attached at least partially to the foot portion and/or the leg portion thereof.
Abstract: A guarding system for the protection of workers at least at the workpiece discharge side of a truss lumber component cutting apparatus is disclosed. Guard sections are attached to and move with movable elements of the cutting apparatus in both horizontal and vertical directions of movement in relation to a lower stationary guard section. As a result, a restricted opening only is formed by the guarding system at the workpiece discharge side of the apparatus so that a worker can receive cut wooden components with comparative safety.
