  • Patent number: 4312883
Abstract: A class of alkyl-substituted angular flurocoumarins, sometimes termed alkylangelicins, useful in the photochemotherapy of psoriasis and in other skin diseases characterized by cellular hyperproliferation or lack of skin pigmentation is disclosed for topical application or systemic administration. Compared with conventional psoralens the described compounds exhibit a lower risk of skin cancer, absence of phototoxicity problems anderithema to the patient so treated. One preferred compound is 5-methylangelicin.

  • Patent number: 4311176
Abstract: A machine for manufacturing curvilinear convex wooden frames includes a base frame having a feeding bench mounted thereon over which is fed a continuous wooden strip which is wound up on a revolving pattern to form a rough frame of the desired thickness. The feeding bench is movable relative to the base frame and its movement is coordinated with the revolving pattern under control of a power cylinder to maintain the surface of the feeding bench tangent at all times to the revolving pattern.

  • Patent number: 4304046
Abstract: A trailer bed or chassis including side rail extensions and center rail support posts serves to mount a wooden truss fabricating jig including laterally adjustable center rail sections and associated transverse arms for the support of truss lumber. An arrangement of permanent stops and swivel stops on the jig together with a truss peak locator and splice locator enable the setting up on the job site of a calibrated jig prior to placing the truss lumber thereon, resulting in a great savings of time in truss fabrication. Trusses are produced with precision and uniformity having improved quality and a wider range of truss sizes can be accommodated with the apparatus because of its versatility.

  • Patent number: 4301655
Abstract: An improved cylinder head for a fuel injected internal combustion piston engine is channeled so as to form a miniature steam boiler at the combustion end of the cylinder bore enabling injected water to flash into superheated steam in a few milliseconds. The cylinder head is configured to provide the maximum heat transfer surface area thereon. The generated steam in the engine supplements its power, and assists in controlling engine temperature.

  • Patent number: 4301622
Abstract: Right and left hand casement windows employ a simple and compact operating linkage which can be installed either to the right or to the left of a center mounted gear drive, thus accomplishing universal operation of left or right hand windows through a structurally identical linkage. Locking tabs provided on an operator link of the mechanism coact in right or left hand mode of operation with locking projections on a stabilizer link to assure positive and secure closing of the window even in cases where the primary jamb-mounted window sash latch is unfastened.

  • Patent number: 4300794
Abstract: A positive acting non-handed flush mounted fastener or lock ideally suited to casement windows and other swinging closures is provided. No parts project into the room to interfere with window hangings and when the sash or other closure is locked, no parts project into the light or sight line. A compound locking action employing a pivoted locking lever, a latch connected with the locking lever through a toggle and toggle link, and a cam track for the toggle link and latch provided in a casing for the lock develops great force to draw in or release a sash or other closure.

  • Patent number: 4299389
Abstract: Each square of a chessboard is centrally provided with a magnet, and each chess and/or draughts piece is provided with a permanent magnet. Because of the presence of the magnets, each piece is automatically centered in the square, toward which it is moved, without requiring any operation of "settling" and of possible taking back of the piece. Furthermore, each piece is secured against shocks or sudden movements of the chessboard.

  • Patent number: 4286514
Abstract: A one-piece spring material finger-operated tongs for compressing tea bags is sized for convenient holding in one hand with broad upwardly convergent tea bag compressing jaw plates projecting forwardly of a pair of finger grip tabs near the center of the device. When the compressor is closed on the tea bag, the bag is progressively squeezed from top-to-bottom across its full width to drain downwardly into a tea cup. The greatest compression on the tea bag is at its bottom.

  • Patent number: 4284681
Abstract: A composite material comprising a layer of highly-plasticised polyvinylchloride, comprising 15 to 45% of polyvinylchloride and 55 to 85% by weight of a plasticiser, a fibrous backing, and an intermediate layer of a polymeric material between the polyvinylchloride layer and the backing, which material at least reduces the migration of plasticiser from the highly-plasticised polyvinylchloride layer to or through the backing. This material can be bonded using an adhesive to the walls, floor, and/or ceiling of a room which is to be kept free of dust and/or bacteria, e.g. an operating theatre or computer room. The dust and/or bacteria adhere to the exposed surface of the highly plasticised PVC layer, from which they can be removed by washing. The highly plasticised PVC layer also has valuable anti-slip properties.

  • Patent number: 4277998
Abstract: A base frame mounts a first gang of saws in a common vertical datum plane and a first wood member conveyor device. A second gang of saws in a common vertical datum plane and a second wood member conveyor device are mounted on a carriage on the base frame for movement toward and away from the first gang of saws and first conveyor device. Each saw in each gang is independently vertically adjustable in its vertical datum plane and each saw is rotatable a full 180 degrees around the axis of a chord on the saw blade lying in the common datum plane of such saw. Each saw, during its angular rotation, is precisely supported on a double pantograph movement linkage which follows an arcuate track centered on said chord and vertical datum plane. A precision drive for the wood member conveyor devices and carriage obviates the necessity for a long torque shaft and enables much greater versatility of operation of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4277330
Abstract: A spiral separator for the wet gravity separation of solids of different specific gravities has a number of helical sluices or spirals mounted about a vertical column, the bottom of each spiral being substantially straight in cross-section and inclining upwards from inside to outside of the spiral, the pitch of the outside of the spiral being substantially uniform, but the angle of the spiral bottom to horizontal, and therefore the pitch of the inside part of the spiral, varying, this angle and the inside pitch of the spiral being greater in the upper part of the spiral than in the lower part.

  • Patent number: 4271406
Abstract: A system for providing an alarm in the event of a bed wetting occurrence is presented which includes a pair of electrodes fabricated from permanent magnets which are positioned adjacent to each other and held apart by a thin spacer. A self-latching relay is responsive to the completion of an electrical circuit between the electrodes which during the normal application of the invention is caused by an electrolyte such as urine. The self-latching relay interrupts current flow to the magnetic electrodes and activates a nurses call system through the use of pulsating signals.

  • Patent number: 4271148
Abstract: An improved process for producing a palatable liver product having utility for use in treating certain blood diseases is disclosed. The process of the invention involves the reduction of the bulk of the liver without any loss of its essential components and comprises the steps of initially cooking the liver and thereafter subjecting the liver to a series of certain grinding and vacuum treatments. The resulting product may be encapsulated and/or pressed into tablets of a convenient size for human consumption. The processed liver may also be combined with a suitable binder and pressed into biscuit form. The liver product is very palatable, easily digested, and is particularly suitable.
