  • Patent number: 5419739
Abstract: A flap type pressure relief valve comprises a frame having an opening therethrough controlled by a valve flap in the form of a flexible sheet of material mounted to the frame along a first side of the opening to overlie the opening. The flexible sheet is joined to the frame by a connection comprising slots through the frame adapted to receive and retain tabs on the valve flap that extend through the apertures. The tabs are formed of resilient and compressible elastomeric material and have enlarged first and second retaining ribs extending closely adjacent the respective slot on both side faces of the frame with a necked connecting portion disposed between the first and second ribs. The connecting portion of each tab is seated within the respective aperture and is under compression and completely fills the aperture and compressively engages the frame. • Patent number: 4747541
Abstract: A dispensing apparatus particularly suited for dispensing oil and oil-flour mixtures in the baking industry includes a hopper for holding a quantity of the liquid to be dispensed and a plurality of positive displacement piston pumps. Separate inlet passages extend from the hopper to each of the pumps. Separate outlet passages also extend from each of the pumps. A discharge nozzle manifold having a plurality of discharge nozzles is connected to the pumps by a removable and replaceable plate-like gasket. The gasket is provided with connecting passages for connecting selected ones of the nozzles with selected pump outlet passages and diverting flow from other pump outlet passages and returning it to the hopper. The arrangement thus allows the number and pattern of dispensing nozzles in operation to be changed merely by changing the gasket without deactivating or changing the setting of the individual pumps.

  • Patent number: 4560083
Abstract: A closure and method for closing an aperture in a panel includes a plate member having a planar inside face, a peripheral edge, and a plurality of retaining tabs which depend from the inside face. The plate member has a spaced recess formed in the inside face adjacent each retaining tab and extending inwardly from the peripheral edge. A sealing member or gasket comprised of an expansible elastomeric material is interposed between the inside face of the plate member and the edge of a panel aperture. The plate member is configured relative to the panel aperture and the gasket member such that the gasket member is effectively in a confined space. The confined space is preferably defined by a marginally depending edge on the plate and a depending center portion which is adapted to enter the panel aperture. When the elastomeric material is thereafter exposed to elevated temperatures, it expands to fill the confined space between the plate member and the panel.

  • Patent number: 4545249
Abstract: An ultrasonic defect detection assembly (A) and an elongated workpiece (B) are mounted for relative movement. A mechanical assembly (C) provides relative movement between the workpiece and the examination assembly. An electronic circuit and display (D) produces a visual display indicating the relative position of the workpiece and the examination assembly, particularly the relative positions at which the examination assembly detects defects. A transmitting ultrasonic transducer (30) and a receiving ultrasonic transducer (38) are acoustically coupled with the workpiece, one being mounted at a preselected position on the workpiece and the other being mounted for relative movement with the examination assembly. The relative position of the workpiece and examination assembly is determined by measuring changes in a characteristic of the acoustic wave traveling between the transmitting and receiving transducers.

  • Patent number: 4523468
Abstract: A first array (A) of ultrasonic transducers transmits ultrasonic shear waves circumferentially around an examined cylindrical object (110). A second array (B) transmits ultrasonic shear waves axially along the examined object. Triggering pulses from a triggering amplifier (22) are switched by a multiplexer (24) to each individual transducer of the first and second arrays. As one of the transducers assumes the role of a transmitting transducer and transmits an ultrasonic wave, the other transducers of the first and second arrays assume a receiving mode to receive reflected ultrasonic components. A wave travel timer (26) measures the duration for an ultrasonic wave to be transmitted from the transmitting transducer to a defect and for a reflected component to propagate from the defect to the receiving transducer.

  • Patent number: 4515993
Abstract: A low profile electrical cable (10) suitable for use in an oil well where a high temperature corrosive atmosphere is present. The cable is comprised of a plurality of conductors (12) wherein each conductor is insulated by wrapping it in two heat-sealed layers (14) in an insulating material such as a polyimide plastic. The insulation layers around each conductor are then jacketed by an extruder layer (16) of a material which is mechanically and chemically stable to at least 400.degree. F. The insulated and jacketed conductors are disposed in a side-by-side parallel relationship and wrapped in a metal armor (20) such as a nickel-copper alloy. The physical properties of the insulating and jacketing materials allow very thin layers to be used for producing a cable which is smaller in overall dimensions than prior cables of comparable electrical capacity. Optionally, a braid (18) may be included around the jacket (16) of each conductor to enhance the overall strength characteristics of the cable.

  • Patent number: 4472987
Abstract: A workpiece feed device for lathes wherein an elongated workpiece is supported solely at the opposed end areas thereof. The workpiece extends through the lathe spindle feed opening with one end being clampingly engaged thereat and the other end being supported by a workpiece pusher. This pusher is selectively movable by drive means linearly along a workpath so as to sequentially feed the workpiece into the lathe. The pusher is supported by a plurality of roller sets so that it may freely rotate coaxially about the workpath and the roller sets are positioned in a generally surrounding relationship with the pusher so that any lateral pusher movement relative to the workpath is substantially limited or eliminated. Also, the roller sets and pusher are dimensioned to cooperate with each other at some predetermined radial distance from the workpath so that the workpiece is supported over its length solely at the opposite end areas thereof.

  • Patent number: 4456896
Abstract: An improved low cost relay which comprises a one-piece spool/base, a one-piece core/terminal and a one-piece yoke/armature (yokarm). A coil wound on the spool has one of its leads led to a wire which passes through the hollow stem of the spool for contact with the core upon its insertion into the stem. The stem also retains the yokarm in position with respect to the core and spool. A contact area on the yokarm moves against a contact area on a press-fit terminal mounted in the base with excellent wiping action. The other coil lead is led to a second wire mounted in the spool, and which is captured by a lanced split in a further terminal, which is also a press-fit in the base. A suppressor diode is received in the base and has one of its leads captured by the further terminal when inserted into the base, and its other lead received and captured between the yokarm and the base when the core/terminal is inserted. A backstop for the yokarm is provided by a cover for the device which is mounted on the base.
