  • Patent number: 6581960
Abstract: An occupant sensor system 12 is coupled to an airbag deployment system 14. Occupant sensor system 12 has an occupant sensor 24 that comprises a seat belt and a plurality of wires extending a predetermined length within seat belt 26. Wires 28 are coupled to a controller 22 that is used to sense a changing electrical characteristic of wires 28 such as capacitance or inductance to determine the presence of an occupant. Controller 22 in response to the signal from occupant sensor 24 may then adjust the deployment of an airbag 18.

  • Patent number: 6045174
Abstract: A seat support assembly for an automotive vehicle with a seat having integrated occupant restraints has forward and rearward transversely extending seat support members each having opposed ends with a seat attachment section and an attachment flange. A pair of seat reinforcement members are positioned adjacent and underside of the attachment section on each of the opposed ends of the forward and rearward seat support members, each of the pair seat support reinforcements members having a mating flange adapted for mating between the attachment flange and a portion of the vehicle floor pan. A floor pan reinforcement member is adapted for mating with an underside of the floor pan and has a support flange wrapping around an outer side adjacent the mating flange and the attachment flange.

  • Patent number: 5877414
Abstract: A method and system for generating an effective road profile for use with a computer aided vehicle design system is disclosed. The method has the steps of developing a vehicle model for a vehicle is developed and then excited with an initial drive file to produce a vehicle model response. The vehicle model response is compared to a desired response to produce an error signal, the desired response being based on vehicle dynamics data from a vehicle when driven over a road surface. A modified error signal is determined using a vehicle response model, and the modified error signal is fed into the vehicle model to produce a vehicle model response. A new error signal is iteratively determined until it is within a predetermined limit to produce a vehicle model effective road profile. Once the effective road profile has been determined, a modified vehicle model is excited with the effective road profile to produce a modified model response. The modified vehicle can thus be tested without need for a prototype.
