Patent number: 6289266Abstract: A method of controlling operation of a particulate fuel burning boiler, such as a coal fired boiler, having a plurality of burners each receiving pulverized coal, primary air and secondary air. The flow rate of the pulverized coal, primary air and secondary air is determined independently for each burner and is compared with a model. In the event that the comparison results in a determination that one or more of the flow rates depart from the desired rate by a predetermined amount, a control signal is emitted to adjust the air to flow ratio entering the specific burner. The control signal which alters the air to fuel ratio may result in alteration of the air or fuel flow rates. The method may be employed to reduce NOx emissions, loss on ignition and to optimize heat rate.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1999Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Allegheny Power Service CorporationInventors: Edward P. Patent number: 6279723Abstract: A device for uprighting containers which includes a first conveyor, such as a carrier tray conveyor, to transport generally horizontal containers at a first level, a transfer member having a convex surface adjacent to the first conveyor, and a second conveyor, such as a continuous belt conveyor, to transport generally vertical containers at a second level which is lower than the level of the first conveyor. The first conveyor urges the containers from the first conveyor onto the transfer members, causing the containers' orientation to change from horizontal to vertical as the containers pass over the convex surface. After the containers are oriented vertically, the second conveyor moves the containers away for further processing.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1999Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Inventor: William Zinno

Patent number: 6276143Abstract: An external pressure building circuit for a portable cryogenic liquid cylinder which includes a tubular member disposed outside of the cylinder. The tubular member has an upper portion and a lower portion. The upper portion of the tubular member is in communication with the gas containing portion of the cryogenic liquid cylinder; the lower portion is in communication with the liquid containing portion of the cryogenic liquid cylinder. The tubular member between about 30 and 60 inches long and includes a plurality of fins attached to the tubular member. The fins act as a heat transfer device. In operation a quantity of cryogenic liquid enters the lower portion of the tubular member and is heated. Once the liquid is converted to a gas, it is returned to the gas containing portion of the cylinder. By converting a sufficient quantity of cryogenic liquid to gas, a pressure of greater than 400 p.s.i. can be maintained at a high continuous rate of flow, e.g., greater than 2000 cfh.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2000Date of Patent: August 21, 2001Assignee: Harsco Technologies CorporationInventor: John S. Patent number: 6170401Abstract: A railway maintenance vehicle exchanges worn crossties for new ones. Worn ties are collected and placed on an increased capacity storage car which permits ties to be placed atop the storage cars in a lateral orientation. New ties are simultaneously unloaded from the storage cars for distribution along the track. Tie transport and loading vehicles such as a gantry crane travel on rails atop the storage cars to move worn and new ties between a tie pick up car and a tie distribution car which has a tie ejector for laterally propelling ties fed to it on a queuing conveyor. The tie ejector has an endless drive chain with two striker plates attached at opposite ends and opposite sides such that they cannot interfere. The outward and downward trajectory of ejected ties is adjustable by a movable deflector shield.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 1998Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Assignee: Harsco Technologies CorporationInventors: Robert Miller, Anthony Delucia
