  • Patent number: 6571540
Abstract: Device (10) for achieving communication, via a coupling means, between a first chamber (1) and a second chamber (2). The coupling means comprises, on the same side as the first chamber (1), a first shut-off member (41), and, on the same side as the second chamber (2), a second shut-off member (4) comprising a second flange (52) forming a seat for a second removable shutter element (72). The coupling means further comprises means of sealed connection between two flanges (51) and (52). The second chamber (2) being defined by the inside of a flexible and sealed bag (15), the border of the mouth of which is connected in a sealed way to the second flange (52). When the coupling, means is in an uncoupled position, the flexible bag (15) comprises a band (15d) extending the bag (15) continuously beyond the second flange (52), defining a closed (15f) and sealed, but openable envelope (12) for protecting the second shut-off member (42).

  • Patent number: 6571837
Abstract: A transfer set assembly for transferring fluids between a first container, such as a conventional medical vial, having a sealed open end and a second container such as a conventional IV infusion bag. The transfer set includes a collar having a proximate tubular end portion for securement to the container, a needle cannula and holder assembly, which is telescopically received in a distal tubular portion of the collar, and a closure including a tubular body portion having an open proximate end which is telescopically received over the needle cannula and holder assembly and the distal tubular portion of the collar, a closed distal end portion and an inner tubular portion which is integral with the closed distal end. The inner tubular portion includes a free end having spiral camming surfaces which mate with spiral camping surfaces on the inside surface of the tubular distal portion of the needle cannula holder.

  • Patent number: 6569123
Abstract: A prefillable delivery device for administering intradermal injections includes a prefillable container adapted to store a substance. The substance is expelled through a needle cannula having a forward tip adapted to administer the intradermal injection. A limiter surrounds the needle cannula having a generally flat skin engaging surface extending in a plane generally perpendicular to the needle cannula. An insert is centrally located within the skin engaging surface and is piercable by the forward tip. A sleeve with a first end and a second end surrounds the prefillable container. The limiter is slidably inserted through the first end and the second end is affixed to a depressable plunger for expelling the substance from the container. The limiter is movable between a first position and a second position thereby exposing the forward tip and is selectively movable between a third position and a fourth position thereby concealing the forward tip.

  • Patent number: 6569143
Abstract: A method of making an intradermal injection using a drug delivery device containing the substance to be injected. A device for practicing the method includes a needle cannula having a forward tip and a limiter portion having a skin engaging surface surrounding the needle cannula. The needle cannula is in fluid communication with the substance and the tip of the needle cannula extends beyond the skin engaging surface a distance equal to approximately 0.5 mm to 3.0 mm. The needle cannula includes a fixed angle of orientation relative to the plane of the skin engaging surface. The skin engaging surface limits penetration of the needle tip into the skin so that the substance can be expelled through the needle tip into the dermis layer. Preferably, the fixed angle of orientation of the needle cannula is generally perpendicular relative to the skin surface, and the skin engaging surface is generally flat.

  • Patent number: 6562010
Abstract: A medical syringe assembly includes a first opening and a second opening at opposite ends of a tubular barrel having an inner wall. The inner wall includes an inner surface. A stopper having an engagement surface is slidably received in the tubular barrel and includes a portion for engaging the surface of the inner wall of said tubular barrel. A lubricant is disposed over a limited area of at least one member of the inner wall of the tubular barrel and the engagement surface of said stopper, whereby a sufficient amount of the lubricant is available to provide adequate reduction of friction between the surface of the inner wall of the tubular barrel and the engagement surface of the stopper.

  • Patent number: 6553722
Abstract: This connecting device applies to a sealed connection device in which, firstly, each chamber, respectively a stationary chamber “A” and a transportable chamber “B” has at least one access opening equipped with a door (2, 3) cooperating with a flange (4, 5) with the interposition of sealing elements (12, 14), one (2) of the two doors being articulated to its flange (4), and secondly, the two doors (2, 3) have an element to lock their respective flanges (4, 5) and complementary connecting elements which allow them to be connected thereby forming, through contact of sealing elements (12, 16), an internal space “C” isolating their faces (17, 18) opposite each other from the external medium.
