Patent number: 7148472Abstract: An aerosol TOF MS of the present invention is based on the use of quadrupole lenses with angular gradient of the electrostatic field. On the entrance side, the TOF MS contains an ion-optic system that is used for focusing, aligning, and time-modulating the ionized flow of particles and a deflector modulator that provides alternating deflections of the flow of particles between two positions for aligning the flow with two inlet openings into the TOF MS. As a result, two independently analyzed discrete flows of particles pass through the ion mass separation chamber of the TOF MS without interference with each other. The charged particles fly in direct and return paths along helical trajectories which extend the length of the flight time. The time of the collision and the magnitude of the collision pulse will contain information about the M/Z ratio for the particles being registered.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2004Date of Patent: December 12, 2006Assignee: NGX, Inc.Inventor: Yuri Glukhoy

Patent number: 7071466Abstract: A mass spectrometry system for continuous control of environment based on the use of an aerosol TOF MS that provides operation with a high duty cycle of up to 98% and can be realized in the form of a mobile unit having a data acquisition and analysis system with three levels of data correlation on the basis of constant interaction between various actuating mechanisms of the system via a central processing unit. The TOF MS is based on the use of quadrupole lenses with angular gradient of the electrostatic field. As a result, two independently analyzed discrete flows of particles pass through the ion mass separation chamber of the TOF MS without interference with each other. The system can be mounted either on an underwater and ground vehicle, or on an aircraft.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2004Date of Patent: July 4, 2006Assignee: NGX, Inc.Inventor: Yuri Glukhoy

Patent number: 6348042Abstract: The present invention relates to a shunt, and a method for treating catheters, more particularly shunts, wherein the catheter is made of a biocompatible material and adapted at least for insertion into the brain of a living organism and enzymes are impregnated, either directly or through a matrix forming system, into the interior of the lumen of the catheter. The enzymes impregnated have at least one of the following characteristics: (1) they require a confirmational form and either completely or substantially lose their activity upon dislocation from the interior of the lumen; (2) they require the presence of co-factors for activation which co-factors are also present in the interior of the lumen but are not otherwise present in the biological system in sufficient quantity to excite activation of the impregnated enzymes.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1999Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Inventor: W. Lee Warren, Jr.

Patent number: 6316247Abstract: A device and method for producing refined adipose tissue for use in autologous adipose transplantation or research wherein a sterile environment is maintained. More particularly, a system for refining tissue comprising a first flexible container, a second flexible container having a plurality of pores providing for fluid communication between the interior of the first flexible container and the interior of the first enveloping flexible container, a first port that provides communication between the exterior environment and the interior of the first flexible container and thereby provides a means for introducing fluids into the interior of the first flexible container and allowing waste effluent to exit the first container, a second flexible container, a second port for inserting tissue into the second container and expressing refined tissue out of the container, and a means for controlling the opening and closing of the first and second ports.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1999Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: University of PittsburghInventors: Adam J. Katz, Ramon Llull, J. William Futrell, Marc H. Hedrick, Frank R. Walters

Patent number: 5592937Abstract: The present invention provides a respirator mask having a very soft, compliant facepiece that has several stiffening elements integrated therein. The respirator mask preferably includes an exhalation valve and a pair of filter cartridges. It also has a yolk which complements the facepiece and provides for attachment of a harness to secure the respirator mask to the user's face. The respirator mask is lightweight and extremely comfortable due to the novel facepiece made of three stiffening elements which are completely surrounded by and bonded to a flexible material.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: January 14, 1997Assignee: Mine Safety Appliances CompanyInventor: Paul X.
