  • Patent number: 6543426
Abstract: A multilayered fuel tank (10) for a motor vehicle is disclosed having a fuel tank body (32) for holding liquid and vapor fuel comprising a bottom wall (46), side walls (45) and a top wall and a plurality of fuel tank components (35) located on the top wall and seams (37) located on the side walls. A tank cover (36) is connected to the fuel tank body to define a vapor collection chamber (34). The tank cover encapsulates the top wall and the fuel tank components and seams thereby trapping any fuel vapors that may escape from the tank body, the fuel tank components and the seams. Also disclosed is a method of making the multilayered fuel tank and a method of preventing fuel vapors from escaping from a fuel tank to the environment.

  • Patent number: 6510612
Abstract: A utility knife having a quick release feature, whereby a resilient blade engaging member biased to the locked position engages an opening in the blade, and when the blade engaging member is pushed against the end of a guide slot it automatically releases from the blade allowing the blade to be removed from the knife handle. The knife handle structure reinforces the throat of the knife, by providing a double channel configuration comprising an outer channel with a blade retaining surface and an inner channel inverted relative to the outer channel and providing a blade supporting surface. The outer channel is tapered toward the inner channel about the throat of the knife, to reinforce the throat and prevent deformation under the stresses imparted by the knife blade when in use.

  • Patent number: 6495098
Abstract: A method is provided for sterilizing fluids using bolus dosing of a fluid, stretching of the bolus of fluid into a membrane, such as a thin or ultra-thin film, and subsequent irradiation of the individual fluid membranes which are then recollected after sterilization. A system is provided whereby a fluid moves along a defined pathway in traditional bolus flow where each bolus of fluid is interspersed with a bolus of gas. The bolus of fluid, for example from a patient or other sample, moves along the flow path and the width of the flow path is gradually increased until the fluid bolus is stretched (without breaking) to form a thin fluid membrane which can be completely panned using irradiation (such as ultraviolet irradiation) to sterilize the each bolus which has been stretched into a membrane. After sterilization the width of the flow path is gradually narrowed to a sufficient sized such that the bolus returns to a sufficient size to be collected, typically when it forms a small droplet.

  • Patent number: 6465107
Abstract: A silicone-containing resin, film and film on a subweb are described. The resin and film are formed from (i) polyolefin, (ii) dimethyl polysiloxane having functional end-groups, (iii) vinyl silane compound, and (iv) ultra-high molecular weight silicone polymer optionally using (v) an organo-peroxide agent and (vi) an organo-metallic moisture curing agent. Resins consisting essentially of (a) functionalized polyolefins; (b) dimethyl polysiloxanes having functional end-groups to react with said functionalized polyolefins; (c) ultra-high molecular weight silicone and optional organo-metallic moisture curing agent and films or multilayer structures made therefrom are also described. The film is suitable for use in release films and in liquid-absorbing products.

  • Patent number: 6380320
Abstract: There is provided a process for improving the color of anhydride-grafted polymers. The process includes the steps of admixing in an extruder a polyolefin, a free radical initiator, and an anhydride-providing monomer at a temperature above the melting point of the polyolefin, adding an effective amount of an oxo-boron compound to the admixture; and extruding the resultant anhydride-grafted polymer into a shaped article.
