Abstract: The invention provides for a diet that significantly reduces the glycohemoglobin levels in individuals with type 2 diabetes. A diet plan can be provided to an individual in the form of cards and/or pages with an appropriate meal plan, food items and/or pre-packaged meals, or in an electronic medium for the individuals to use to develop appropriate meal plans. The diet comprises food items having a nutritional composition that consists essentially of 30% protein, 50% fats, and 20% carbohydrates, or food items having a nutritional composition that consists essentially of 30% protein, 40% fats, and 30% carbohydrates.

Abstract: A method of calibrating an apparatus for measuring Radon and/or its progeny in an air sample, includes providing an apparatus for measuring Radon in an air sample that includes a preset offset voltage corresponding to a threshold conductivity value and a preselected reading value for indicating a concentration of Radon and/or its progeny, exposing the apparatus to a calibration area for measuring conductivity of the air therein, comparing the measured conductivity value of the air with the preset offset value for conductivity, and setting a lower threshold conductivity value and corresponding threshold reading value same as the preselected reading value, if the measured conductivity of the air is determined to be lower than the preset offset value for conductivity.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for treating obesity using chronic cervical vagal nerve stimulation (cVNS) of the left vagus trunk are disclosed. Four men and ten women, average age 46 years (SD±10) were treated with output current typically 0.75 mA, pulse frequency 30 Hz and width 250 or 500 ?s, and duty cycle of 30 s power per five minutes. Mean intake weight was 91 kg (SD±27, range 46 to 137 kg) with body mass index (BMI) 43 kg/m2 (SD±5, range 18 to 49 kg/mn2). After 6-12 months, obese patients had marked weight loss while normal weights were maintained. Decrease in BMI was consistently proportional to initial BMI. Average weight loss at one year was 7 kg (SD±3, range ?6 to +24) with mean drop in BMI of 2 kg/m2 (SD±3, range ?2 to +8)k. All patients denied any major dieting or exercise.

Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of oxidized nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) or of its reduced form, NADH, as sodium channel modulators. The present invention also relates to the use of compositions containing NAD+ or NADH to treat conditions associated with sodium channel current, such as arrhythmia. NAD+ is found to increase sodium channel current, while NADH is found to decrease sodium channel current. Thus, conditions that are associated with decreased sodium channel current can be treated with NAD+, while conditions that is associated with increased sodium channel current can be treated with NADH.

Abstract: Organic waste having a moisture content of about 65% is dried to a level of dryness by applying heat generated by microbial action on the waste organic material to dry that material to usable levels of about 20% moisture. Method of the present invention is more efficient and economical for the drying of waste materials to combustible fuel than conventional drying methods and apparatus. Preblended portions of the organic material are deposited sequentially into a fermentation zone of a chamber and hot exhaust gases generated by the fermentation process are passed through an air-to-air heat exchanger along with cooler ambient intake air which is in its turn heated and turned back on the waste material in the second drying stage.
