  • Patent number: 8335248
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate equalization of received signals in a wireless communication environment. Using multiple transmit and/or receive antennas and MIMO technology, multiple data streams can be transmitted within a single tone. During equalization, receivers can separate data received within a tone into individual data streams. The equalization process generally is computationally expensive. Equalizer functions include the inverse operation, which can be computed using the fast square root method; however, the fast square root method involves large numbers of computations for a set of matrices, where the size of a matrix in the set of matrices increases with the number of transmit or receive antennas. Utilizing a modification of the fast square root method, a subset of the elements of the matrices can be selected and updated to reduce the number and/or complexity of computations.

  • Patent number: 8320928
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate scheduling uplink transmissions. For instance, a time sharing scheme can be utilized such that differing mobile devices can be scheduled to transmit during differing time slots; however, it is also contemplated that a static scheme can be employed. Pursuant to an illustration, an interference budget can be combined with a time varying weighting factor associated with a base station; the weighting factor can be predefined and/or adaptively adjusted (e.g., based upon a load balancing mechanism). Moreover, the weighted interference budget can be leveraged for selecting mobile devices for uplink transmission (e.g., based at least in part upon path loss ratios of the mobile devices). Further, disparate interference budgets can be utilized by differing channels of a sector at a particular time. Also, for example, a base station can assign a loading factor to be utilized by wireless terminal(s) for generating channel quality report(s).

  • Patent number: 8315240
Abstract: The claimed subject matter relates to providing uplink data rate option information in an uplink traffic channel segment. A wireless terminal may indicate a data rate option being used for the segment via an energy pattern applied to the tone-symbols of the segment. To indicate a first data rate option, additional energy may be applied to a first set of tone-symbols of the segment. To indicate a second rate option, additional energy may be applied to a second set of tone-symbols of the segment, the second set being different from the first set. According to some aspects, each implemented energy pattern may be represented by a pattern, which has a slope (e.g., in a logical, pre-hopped representation of the channel segment), where some of the patterns have positive slope and some of the patterns have negative slope.

  • Patent number: 8306541
Abstract: A wireless terminal receives an uplink traffic channel segment assignment including a maximum uplink rate option indicator. Each uplink rate option corresponds to a number of information bits, coding rate and modulation method. The maximum rate option indicator indicates the highest rate option that the wireless terminal is permitted to use when transmitting in the assigned traffic channel segment from the perspective of the base station. In some embodiments, the wireless terminal uses interference measurements to further quality, e.g., conditionally reduce, the maximum uplink rate option that may be used. Then, the wireless terminal selects an uplink rate option to use which is less than the determined allowed maximum uplink rate option, e.g., based on the amount of user data to communicate. The wireless terminal transmits data in the assigned uplink traffic channel segment in accordance with the wireless terminal selected uplink rate.

  • Patent number: 8305943
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that provide half-duplex communication in a frequency division duplex (FDD) system. Communications in an FDD system may be divided into half-duplex interlaces, wherein a terminal may receive at one time period and transmit at another time period. An access network in an FDD system may then utilize half-duplex communication to communicate with an access terminal that is not capable of transmitting and receiving simultaneously by using a half-duplex interlace. Further, an access network may also utilize full-duplex communication to communicate with an access terminal that is capable of transmitting and receiving simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 8295225
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that provide techniques for generating and utilizing reverse link feedback for interference management in a wireless communication system. Channel quality and/or interference data can be obtained by a terminal from a serving sector and one or more neighboring sectors, from which an interference-based headroom value can be computed that contains interference caused by the terminal to an allowable range. The interference-based headroom value can then be provided with power amplifier (PA) headroom feedback to the serving sector. Based on the provided feedback from the terminal, the serving sector can assign resources for use by the terminal in communication with the serving sector. Further, the serving sector may choose to honor or disregard a received interference-based power value based on quality of service and/or other system parameters.

  • Patent number: 8295250
Abstract: Communication systems and methods that mitigate false alarms due to Doppler shift are disclosed. Received message data is mapped to orthogonal Walsh codes, interleaved and scrambled with appropriate PN sequence prior to transmission. The transmitted message data is descrambled and deinterleaved upon reception. The energies associated with each of the Walsh code from various antennas and/or signal paths are combined to obtain a total energy for each Walsh code. If the total energy of the Walsh code exceeds a certain threshold it is declared as the received message else an erasure is indicated. As the data is interleaved prior to transmission, any phase ramp introduced due to Doppler is transformed into random phase errors upon deinterleaving at the receiver thereby mitigating false alarms.

  • Patent number: 8285283
Abstract: Method and apparatus for an access terminal which makes handoff decisions between a number of potential alternative attachment points based on service level indicating metrics are described. The access terminal computes a service level indicating metric differently for a current connection than for a potential alternative connection. A service level indicating metric is a function of loading information and received signal strength. A selection may be made by selecting between attachment points by selecting the attachment point having the highest service level indicating metric from among a plurality of attachment points, one per possible carrier where the attachment point which is considered for a given carrier is the one having the best connection for the given carrier. The access terminal handoff decision approach provides handoff decisions which are nearly as optimal as those which can be achieved using a centralized control node but without the requirement for centralized handoff decisions.

  • Patent number: 8219030
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate employing distributed frequency planning and reuse factor optimization based upon forward link and/or reverse link interference management techniques. An optimal reuse factor for a base station can be determined based upon a metric that evaluates levels of service associated with neighboring base stations. Moreover, a subset of available resource sets can be selected for use by the base station; thus, a base station specific collection of resource sets can be formed through such selection. Further, mappings of each resource set to a set of physical resources can be disseminated in a network or portion thereof. According to another example, frequency hopping can be constrained to use of resources within a resource set (rather than across more than one resource set) as provided in a base station specific hopping pattern.
