  • Patent number: 4463573
Abstract: A compressor protector system is an air conditioning system that includes a compressor driven by an engine through an electromagnetic clutch. If the refrigerant charge is below the level necessary for proper compressor cooling and lubrication a pressure or temperature responsive switch cycles at an excessive rate. A digital counter adds the number of cycles occuring over a given time, compares the rate of switch pulses to a predetermined maximum and operates to disengage the clutch and signal the vehicle operator that corrective action to restore the refrigerant charge is required.

  • Patent number: 4458551
Abstract: A variable speed ratio manual transmission includes two intermediate shafts straddling an output shaft that is coaxial with an input shaft; each intermediate shaft and the output shaft carries a synchronizer coupling. Each shaft carries at least one journalled pinion and has at least one pinion drivably connected to the shaft. The gear selector mechanism includes a shift rail having a selector finger angularly movable with respect to shift forks. A check plate locked against axial displacement prevents movement of the unselected shift forks. Shift rail motion is transmitted to the selected shift forks of the intermediate shafts by auxiliary arms that extend radially from the shift rail into selected engagement with the shift forks.

  • Patent number: 4456810
Abstract: A spot weld control senses differences in welding current required to produce an optimum weld by determining the time rate of change of resistance during the increasing resistance portion of the weld cycle. The weld control can reduce the welding current if the time rate of resistance change exceeds a maximum value and increase the current if the resistance change is less than a minimum value. The weld current may be terminated when a decrease in resistance from the peak resistance value has reached a predetermined percentage of the peak resistance value or terminated after a predetermined number of current cycles.

  • Patent number: 4405288
Abstract: A variable displacement rotary piston pump has a rotor splined to a driven shaft, a plurality of radially directed cylinders, each having a slidable piston fitted therein, a pumping ring surrounding the rotor and mounted eccentrically of the axis of the rotor with which the pistons maintain contact and are caused to move within the cylinders, a piston return ring engageable with notches formed on the pistons and an eccentric mounted for rotation to which the pumping ring is secured having an actuator pin whose movement determines the position of the pumping ring with respect to the rotor, thereby regulating the flow rate of the pump. The pump destrokes above the idle speed of the engine from which it is driven and limits the flow rate of the pump. A venturi orifice establishes a differential pressure which is applied across a flow control valve, which directs hydraulic fluid at discharge pressure to one or the other of two control pistons thereby adjusting the eccentric position.
