  • Patent number: 4381612
Abstract: A dryer fabric and method for drying a web W of paper material is disclosed which includes passing the web through a dryer having a plurality of heated cylinders and holding the web in contact against the heated cylinders by means of a dryer fabric 24 arranged as an endless traveling dryer fabric. The dryer fabric includes a plurality of elongated helix means 30 extending in a cross-wise direction constructed from a polymeric material characterized by stress and heat resistance to which said fabric is subjected during endless travel about the rollers at elevated drying temperatures. Joint means 32 joins adjacent ones of helix means successively together in a machine direction to form an endless belt of desired dimension. Spaced upper and lower generally parallel loop runs 34a and 34b in the helix means 30 define a smooth generally flat paper contacting surface.

  • Patent number: 4364157
Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying sizing S to warp yarns W for weaving is disclosed. The method includes applying a concentrated solution having at least twenty percent solids and possibly up to eighty percent by applying the solution to the warps at the nip 22 of a pair of pressure rolls 12 and 14 where the bottom roll 14 is partially immersed in a slasher box and excess size solution is removed by means of a doctor blade 30. The warp yarns W are delivered directly to the nip. The doctor blade 30 is located downstream of nip 22 between the rollers such that there is no rollback of size at the nip and a desired add-on weight of size S is pressed into the yarns W. In a preferred embodiment, the application roller 14 has a relieved pattern surface 40 and the doctor blade 30 wipes the raised portions thereof leaving a metered amount in the relieved areas of the roll for application to the warps. Solution removed by the doctor blade rolls back to the slasher box.

  • Patent number: 4364421
Abstract: A woven textile fabric and seam is disclosed for joining dryer fabrics and the like papermaking clothing constructed of multiply woven fabric belting wherein each of the ends of the belting is separated into continuous woven superposed plys permitting insertion and securing of seam webbing between the plys at each end of the belting. The seam webbing is illustrated sandwiched between the separated plys and completely enclosed therein when the plys and webbing are secured together so that interruption of the otherwise continuous belting is minimized. Having affixed the webbing at ends of the woven fabric in this manner, pintle loops may be interlaced and fastened securely together by the insertion of pintle material. One of the separated plys may be advantageously woven to provide pintle loops when folded upon itself.

  • Patent number: 4340033
Abstract: An apparatus and method is described and illustrated for maximizing the efficiency of a solar collector and the like as well as that of a liquid storage tank by maintaining the temperature of the liquid at the bottom of the tank at a relatively low point through the use of a temperature limiting valve which assures utilization of a major portion of the heat from the liquid by the load prior to transmission of the liquid below a predetermined temperature to a lower portion of the storage tank from which the liquid is again circulated as to a solar collector. Stratification is encouraged by introducing heated liquid from the collector to the storage tank at one or more raised positions, and by the use of velocity reducers such as are normally used to reduce turbulence, together with other temperature limiting apparatus which would limit the flow to high temperature liquid for efficient operation.
