  • Patent number: 5228634
Abstract: A novel roll loading mechanism is described which mechanically lifts a roll of web material into an operative position at the roll mounting of the printing press. This is accomplished by use of a dual chain conveyor having supports cantilevered from the chain, and synchronized to lift both ends of the core simultaneously to the printing press mount. This chain drive and the supports are selectively driven in a forward direction to lift the roll, and reversed to lower the roll to the initial pick-up position. A common drive shaft with sprockets to engage the chains is used to provide simultaneous and synchronized drive to the dual chain conveyors. A triangular configuration of the conveyor chain is used which presents an acute angle having its vertex above the press mount to assure secure position of the roll.

  • Patent number: 5197268
Abstract: A mulching blade for a mower is described herein. In one embodiment shredding teeth are arranged about a bulging central portion of the blade (or a separate disk mounted with the blade). During mowing these teeth shred grass and leaves trapped within the mower housing, thereby using the housing and air flow generated by the blade to bring the debris into mulching contact with the teeth rotating at high speed within the housing.

  • Patent number: 5127175
Abstract: A swivel design for a wear shoe is described which provides support to apparatus cantilevered from a vehicle. This effectively reduces wear to the contacting surface by distributing the wear more evenly. To accomplish this objective the wear shoe is mounted to the supported structure by a swivel joint which allows full freedom of movement. During use the wear shoe tilts and rotates on the swivel to maintain the wear surface of the shoe in facing relation to the road surface.

  • Patent number: 5123018
Abstract: There is provided an efficient circuit which monitors micropressor operation and directs a reset signal to the microprocessor in the event of malfunction. The status monitor circuit operates by maintaining a capacitor charge with a status pulse from the microprocessor. The base of a transistor is controlled by this charged capacitor, such that the transistor switches OFF when the charge is drained and the absence of a status signal is indicated. When the transistor is switched OFF a reset pulse is enabled to the microprocessor. To provide the reset signal, a transformed AC line voltage is applied to the base of a second transistor to switch it ON and OFF in synchronization with the line frequency.

  • Patent number: 5118033
Abstract: The present invention comprises a one-piece blank for forming a shallow triangular carton. The blank includes a bottom portion having converging paired sidewalls hinged thereto. A third wall is hinged to the bottom and to a cover. In one embodiment the paired sidewalls have upwardly protruding tabs for engaging the cover, and the cover exhibits tab engaging openings therein. In another embodiment, the cover openings converge to define a flexing peripheral edge for frictionally engaging the sidewalls at their conjunction.

  • Patent number: 5060335
Abstract: The present invention incorporates a caged roller transported along a railroad track by a railroad car adapted for the purpose. The roller is covered with a fluid retaining wear resistant layer which contacts the rail surface. Rolling motion of the roller is generated by movement of the cage along the track and wiping action is caused by retarding rolling motion by contact of the roller with the rear portion of the cage. In a further feature the motion of the roller may be additionally retarded by providing in the interior of the roller a quantity of particulate matter to increase rolling resistance and the weight of the roller.

  • Patent number: 5048829
Abstract: A new ball shaped amusement device is described wherein a core center of a ball is covered with a partial (figure-8) outer layer, thereby presenting a firm edge around the periphery of the partial layer. Moreover, this partial layer is chosen in the traditional figure-8 pattern generally seen as seams in popular baseballs, to present a striking visual resemblance as well as the desired irregular surface. With this surface contour the flight of the ball as well as its bounce take on new and unusual paths.

  • Patent number: 5042017
Abstract: An apparatus for generating a digital pulse train from a dial rotation indicating the direction and degree of rotation. The device incorporates two facing disks mounted to a stem and having mating teeth on adjacent surfaces. One disk is mounted for free rotation about the winding stem and projects an actuating lever arm from its periphery. The other disk is mounted for axial movement and is keyed to rotate with the shaft. Left and right micro-switches are mounted proximate the disks and positioned to be contacted by the actuating lever when it is rotated in the respective left and right directions. During this rotation the stem moves the keyed disk in the selected direction of rotation. The keyed disk engages the free disk and causes it to rotate until the actuating lever arm contacts a micro-switch. When such contact occurs, the free disk is prevented from further rotation and the keyed disk shifts over the teeth of the free disk.

  • Patent number: 5024639
Abstract: A "Z" type power transmission including a steerable housing having a propeller shaft exiting therefrom. The steerable housing is mounted to a drive housing in a manner which allows rotational motion relative to the drive housing. The drive housing receives the drive shaft and steering control from the vessel and is arranged for selective vertical pivotal movement about the axis of the drive shaft to elevate the transmission. Drive force transmission between the steerable and drive housings is accomplished by use of coaxial shafts. Steering torque is provided to the drive housing along the same axis as the drive shaft so as to maintain both drive and steering torque during elevation of the unit.

  • Patent number: 4999937
Abstract: There is provided a floor sign having a ratchet positionable hinge and replaceable signage. The hinge operates by frictionally engaging one side of the hinge integral with one panel and engaging the opposite side of the hinge, which is integral with the other panel, by means of a ratchet mechanism. This mechanism is arranged to be slideably disengaged by shifting the axial member of the hinge. Selected signage is attachable by magnetic adhesive, or hook/loop (Velcro) methods.
