Abstract: A toilet seat lifting and lowering device for pivoting the seat to its raised position and for pivoting it back to its horizontal position without having to touch the seat. A first lever arm is rigidly attached at one end to a first part of a torque transfer mechanism and at its other end to a foot pedal and a second lever arm is rigidly attached at one end to a second part of the torque transfer mechanism and at its other end to the toilet seat. With the toilet seat in its horizontal position, a downward force on the pedal produces a rotation of the first part of the torque transfer mechanism which produces an opposite rotation of the second part of the torque transfer mechanism causing the toilet seat to pivot to its raised position. Lifting the pedal, preferably by providing an upward force under the pedal, lowers the seat to the horizontal position.
Abstract: A method is provided for introducing nucleic acid into a cell, by contacting the cell with a nucleic acid and applying a low electrical field impulse for a long pulse length. A method is provided for introducing a polypeptide into a cell, by contacting the cell with the polypeptide and applying a low electrical field impulse for a long pulse length.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for introducing a preselected molecule into a living cell by contacting the cell with the preselected molecule and applying a multiple series of electrical pulses to the cell. The method can be utilized ex vivo. The multiple electrical pulses generate rotating electric fields which introduce transient pores in the living cell without killing the cell. The rotating electric fields are provided in a flow through chamber apparatus having more than two electrodes. A three-step pulse process, e.g. collection, electroporation, electrophoresis, is used to introduce the preselected molecule into the cell. A mechanical means of repositioning cells between successive pulses is also provided. The apparatus can also provide a means to pulse cells at different temperatures and then after pulsing, let the cells recover for a specified residence time at another temperature.
Abstract: A golf swing training apparatus designed to allow a golfer to practice full swing motions while actually hiring a golf ball. The device is light weight and of simple construction. It provides for optimization of practice time by allowing instant feedback as to progress, or the lack thereof, in the golfer's technique. The device monitors the lateral and forward leg and knee motion during the full swing motion. Moreover, the device provides swing plane indicator rods which may be positioned at any useful angle for a full range of golf swings.
Abstract: Disclosed is a lightweight backpack and its frame. The design of the frame accommodates use as a structure for shaping and supporting a recreational hiking or military infantry backpack while in a folded and compact arrangement, and additionally, accommodates use for shaping and supporting material for use as a sleeping cot able to support the body weight of a human while in and unfolded elongated arrangement. In either the folded or unfolded arrangement, the backpack may be easily removed or reattached to the frame. The cot material is also easily detachable for purposes of replacement of worn material and its arrangement in conjunction with the frame is also intended to serve in part as padding and back support for the wearer. The hinge and lock at the frame's hinge joints aids the user in fold out and break down of the frame and also adds strength to the frame while in both the folded and unfolded position.
