  • Patent number: 4178652
Abstract: A method and apparatus for automatically cleaning the surface of a roller, such as a laminating roller, is disclosed herein. The method consists of rotating the roller at a predetermined fixed speed about its axis and simultaneously moving a nozzle which produces a small stream of steam along the axis of the roller at a fixed speed so that the stream of steam impinges the entire surface of the roller. The apparatus consists of a support for rotatably supporting a roller and supporting a nozzle for reciprocation with respect to the axis of the roller with either common or separate drive means for rotating the roller and reciprocating the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4178325
Abstract: Resinous coating compositions of low volatile solvent content are provided which are sufficiently fluid to permit effective application, and which cure on baking at low temperature to provide hard stain- and detergent-resistant coatings of outstanding flexibility. These are made by copolymerizing monoethylenic monomers including monoethylenic monomer having a functional group reactive with N-methylol functionality and selected from carboxylic acid, hydroxy and amide groups, the copolymerization being carried out in a solvent solution containing a major proportion of liquid bishydroxy ethyl ether of a bisphenol, alone or together with the corresponding bishydroxy propyl ether. The copolymer solution has added thereto an aminoplast resin to provide a stable solution in which proportions are important so that coatings can be easily applied and cured to provide the desired characteristics without liberating excessive amounts of volatile material.

  • Patent number: 4176746
Abstract: A gusseted package and method of making same are provided in which the package is formed by folding a first web along first and second, parallel spaced fold lines inwardly of each opposite side edge to produce first and second overlapping portions and then positioning a second web adjacent the first web. The first and second webs are first heat-sealed together at one end and along the sides of the package. Additionally, the inner surface of the first web is heat-sealed to the adjacent facing inner surface of one of each of the first overlapping portions in a reinforcement region spaced inwardly of the other end of the package and extending between the first and second fold lines with a peripheral boundry generally adjacent and parallel to the second fold line. The resulting heat-seal extends over the major portion of the distance between the first and second fold lines. However, the second overlapping portions of the first web are not heat-sealed to the underlying second web beneath the reinforcement region.

A frame decoratively surrounds and contains the tiles. Each of the tiles has an eccentric image or eccentric geometric pattern thereon and can be rotated on a peg to various positions to attain a variety of pictures. Even more pictures can be obtained when different patterned tiles are exchanged with each other. In one embodiment, the tiles and pegs are rectangular and the pegs have a concave corner to facilitate removal of the tiles. In another embodiment, the faces of the tiles are circular and rotate upon cylindrical pegs. The tiles can also be transparent with window-like pockets that receive reversible decorative members.

  • Patent number: 4171735
Abstract: A safety device for a press and the like machinery includes a safety deflector surrounding a tool carriage reciprocable along a path with respect to a fixed frame. The safety device also includes a limit switch associated with a door that defines part of the safety deflector. First and second contactless switches are located adjacent a work supporting surface and respectively sense the position of opposite surfaces of the workpiece to insure that the workpiece is within limits of the work supporting surface and the safety deflector. The switches are in a circuit leading to a machine clutch for the tool carriage to prevent operation when the door is open or either surface of the workpiece is outside prescribed limits of the deflector and the support surface.
