  • Patent number: 4799487
Abstract: A device for the re-animation of the paralyzed face including electrodes implanted in muscles on the healthy side of the face, said electrodes sensing contractions and sending signals to a microprocessor, which in turn processes said signals and re-transmits them to other electrodes implanted in the counterpart muscles in the paralyzed side of the face, thereby stimulating said counterpart muscles to contract. Also, a method for treating the paralyzed face in which some exigency requires a delay before said device can be installed, including periodically electronically stimulating the muscles on the paralyzed side of the face, thereby preventing atrophy for whatever time span is required. In another embodiment an electromagnet implanted in the bone below the eye on the paralyzed side of the face receives signals from the non-paralyzed side of the face, which energize a current causing the electromagnet to pull the eyelid shut, said eyelid having ferrous material implanted therein.

  • Patent number: 4761872
Abstract: A pillow (10) has a filler comprised of a foam rubber core (16) around which is spirally wrapped a polyester fiber batting (28). Circular end walls (13) are formed by drawing together extensions of a tubular casing (12) after the filler has been thereinto inserted in a pre-compressed condition. A method of making the pillow comprises snugly fitting an end of the extended casing (12) over the small end of a tapered tube (33), placing the rolled core (16) and batting (28) into a plastic bag (34), pushing the bag (34) and filler through the large end of the tapered tube (33) into the extended casing, removing the casing (12) from the tapered tube (33), removing the bag from the free end of the casing (12), and then forming the casing end walls (13) by pulling and tying drawstrings (27).

  • Patent number: 4640365
Abstract: A row following guidance device connecting the right and left ends of the forward portion of a row crop implement to a tractor will adjust the length of each left and right connection as the tractor deviates laterally from alignment with the crop rows to correctively guide the implement in alignment with the crop rows. A row following wheel signals a steering valve upon any lateral deviation of the implement from crop row alignment, the steering valve correcting the deviation by lengthening one connection between the tractor and the implement and shortening the other. The row following wheel is mounted for movement independent of the implement so that the implement may be raised or lowered without affecting the operation of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 4628624
Abstract: A sign holder having two identical support members, one in a lower position and one in an upper position. Pockets in the support members hold the edges of a sign, and extendable arms telescoping from each end of the support members have curved ends for engaging the edges of a vehicle door. Each arm is fastened to the inside surface of the door edge with a set screw. Door-abutting faces of each arm are lined with soft material, and door-adjacent faces of the support members have rubber nubs attached thereto so that the door's finish will not be scratched or marred.

  • Patent number: 4618909
Abstract: A static discharge device including a band of material which tends to give up electrons, mounted on the exterior circumference of a clothes dryer drum. A layer of material tending to tear away electrons is affixed to the drum-adjacent face of a contact shoe which is mounted on a side wall of the dryer and biased to frictionally contact the band. The contact shoe is electrically grounded, so that the electrons which are collected by the layer of material and then transmitted to the contact shoe are continuously removed to ground.

  • Patent number: 4577466
Abstract: A packing plant by-products chiller includes an elongated tank having an inlet end for introducing fresh animal by-products and an outlet end for removing chilled by-products. The tank is rotatably supported on a set of trunnion wheels and is rotated by a chain by sprocket assembly operatively connected to a motor. A liquid coolant supply line from a coolant source introduces low temperature coolant into the tank. An elongated through is positioned beneath the tank for receiving warmed coolant which drains from the tank through a plurality of apertures therein. A pump is operatively connected to the through for recirculating the coolant back to the coolant source. The method of chilling fresh animal by-products comprises introducing the by-products and liquid coolant from the coolant source into the chilling tank located at the slaughter location and rotating the tank such that the by-products therein are tumbled for complete exposure to the coolant.

  • Patent number: 4572087
Abstract: A fertilizer injection apparatus having hollow, ground-piercing knives connected by tubes to a hopper with a fertilizer delivery system. A tool bar is connected to the hopper by rigid links pivoted to the tool bar at one end about the single axle of the hopper at the other end. A bell crank lever mechanism interconnected between the tool bar, each link and the hopper, maintains the hopper level with the ground regardless of whether the knives are above ground or how far they are inserted. The tool bar and hopper combination are pivotally towed by a tractor and a liquid fertilizer tank system which delivers its contents through hoses to an anterior point on each knife is towed behind the hopper.

  • Patent number: 4558890
Abstract: A multi-port hydraulic swivel joint (10) in which a high pressure flow channel (34) is located adjacent an enclosed end (15a) of the swivel joint, the pressure in the return line is maintained at a low level to provide low pressure fluid which is transmitted through a flow channel (37) adjacent to an open end of the swivel joint, and the return flow channel (36) is located between the other two. A passageway (43) communicates fluid which has seeped to a cavity between the high pressure flow channel and the enclosed end to the return flow channel (36), a raceway (44) with steel balls (46) resist forces tending to separate the stator (30) and rotor (40) of the swivel joint, and a lip seal (49) with grease packing seals the low pressure flow channel (37) from the open end (15) of the swivel joint.
