  • Patent number: 6509452
Abstract: The present invention relates to a vector for expression of a heterologous protein by a Gram negative bacteria, wherein the vector includes a nucleic acid such as DNA encoding the following: an origin of replication region; optionally and preferably a selection marker; a promoter; an initiation region such as translation initiation region and/or a ribosome binding site, at least one restriction site for insertion of heterologous nucleic acid, e.g. DNA, encoding the heterologous protein, and a transcription terminator. The inventive vector may contain DNA encoding the heterologous protein, e.g., pro-insulin such as pro-insulin with a His tag.

  • Patent number: 6243906
Abstract: A combination ice scraper and snow removal assembly which has multiple blades in contact with the working/windshield surface to more efficiently remove ice and snow therefrom and reduce the amount of energy expended by the user to scrape and remove snow from the working surface. This combination ice scraper and snow removal assembly includes a main body portion having two ends thereof. A scraping assembly is provided at one end of the main body for scraping a frozen water material from a working surface. The scraping assembly includes at least three scraping blades with at least one of the scraping blades having a continuous blade edge and at least two of the scraping blades having toothed cutting edges. As a result, in a single swiping or scraping action of the user, ice or snow can be dislodged from the working windshield/surface by the scraping blade assembly and then cleared and/or removed from that dislodged location by the cleaning blade removal assembly in a limited path of travel.

  • Patent number: 5868814
Abstract: A molten glass recirculating apparatus is provided, comprising a riser chamber having a first opening positioned below a molten glass level and a second opening positioned above a molten glass level, a trough positioned adjacent the upper opening, and a gas emitter positioned within the riser chamber below a molten glass level and methods of using the same. When a gas is emitted from the gas emitter, molten glass contained within the riser chamber rises and exits the riser chamber through the second opening and along the trough. The exiting molten glass causes additional molten glass to be drawn into the riser chamber through the first opening. The invention also comprises a glass melter including a plurality of glass recirculating means, each being individually controllable to control the circulation of molten glass within a glass melter.

  • Patent number: 5789648
Abstract: An article, such as a containment system (10), having sides (12) with walls (2) or (24) is made; in one method by using cast, cooled, melted, radioactive metal components where the melted metal has a specific activity over 130 Bq/g; or by providing a contaminated material in the form of a solid, liquid or mixture, and then mixing the contaminated material, to which no more than about 15 weight % of uncontaminated material has been reacted, with a binder, followed by forming the composition into a containment system and then curing it into a mass which contains both contaminated material, and uncontaminated binder acting as a matrix for the contaminated material. This article need not be a containment system but can be a wide variety of objects which are made out of radioactive waste, hazardous waste, and their mixtures.
