  • Patent number: 4850642
Abstract: A universal table A-frame that is constructed as a unitary structure for use in a booth seating system including a series of booths. The A-frame is a basic module for the booth seating system. The A-frame includes a pair of spaced apart frame rails arranged in a longitudinal parallel relationship and in the same horizontal plane by means of legs secured to the rails adjacent the ends of the rails. The A-frame includes a pair of elements that are individually secured to the inner edge of one of the rails and each extends upwardly towards the other rail. A horizontal frame element is secured in a cantilevered relationship to the free ends of the pair of elements to thereby complete the frame. The horizontal element is adapted to mount a table top. The legs of the A-frame may be offset for permitting the stacking of the A-frame in a nesting relationship. The frame rails are also provided with mounting plates for permitting the longitudinal adjustability of the frames.

  • Patent number: 4795528
Abstract: A method for making an optical memory storage medium which has a transparent substrate with void cells of empty spaces and ablative material on the cell walls is disclosed. In one example, a base plate is coated with a masking layer. Pits are formed on the plate by mechanically stamping the masking layer and the base plate with a punch. A layer of ablative material is next applied on the pitted plate. The masking layer is then removed, together with any ablative material on it. The base plate is joined with a cover plate that seals the top of the pits to form void cells. In another example, a base plate is coated with a photo resist. The photo resist is exposed and developed. Pits are formed on the plate by etching the uncovered areas of the base plate. This is followed by the application of ablative material and the removal of the photo resist. The base plate is joined with a cover plate that seals the top of the pits to form void cells.

  • Patent number: 4781187
Abstract: A method and implant for refractive keratoplasty or improved radial keratotomy. The improved radial keratotomy comprising making a plurality of radial corneal incisions in accordance with prior practices to correct the detected impaired vision. A piece of donor corneal tissue having a preselected geometric configuration and dimensions is inserted into keratotomy incisions and fixed in position by suturing. The corneal tissue implant may be rectangular or triangular in shape. When the implant is triangular in shape, it is inserted either base down or base up in accordance with the type of vision problem to be corrected.

  • Patent number: 4752949
Abstract: A telephone capable of operation in a cordless or corded mode. The telephone is basically operative in the cordless mode through the provision of electronic transmitting and receiving elements individual to the base unit and the portable handset. The base unit and the handset are provided with conversion switching circuits coupled to be responsive to the connection of a multi-conductor cord between the base unit and the handset to convert the telephone to corded operation. The conversion circuits disable the transmitting and receiving circuits in both the base and handset and permit the telephone signals to be conductively transmitted between the units through the conductors of the cord.

  • Patent number: 4692680
Abstract: Portable apparatus for charging a lead-acid battery from a direct current source such as a series of dry cells that can be conveniently carried in a motor vehicle or the like. An electronic circuit measures the actual current transferred to a battery undergoing charging and automatically signals when a preselected quantity of electric charge has been transferred to the battery undergoing charging. The electronic circuit means also signals that the battery undergoing charging has a preselected voltage level. The electronic circuit automatically signals that the direct current source has sufficient energy to charge a battery before a battery to be charged is connected thereto. The timing of the charge transfer is through the provision of charging and discharging a capacitor between preselected voltage levels by a current proportioned relative to the charging current and counting up a binary counter each time a preselected point in the oscillations are reached until a preselected count is reached.

  • Patent number: 4660546
Abstract: An implant and method for treating external human eye conditions due to a deficiency of tears. The method includes the temporary blockade of the canaliculus of a patient without resorting to a surgical stitch, observing the response of the patient's eye to the temporary blockade and, if an improvement is observed, placing an implant within the horizontal portion of at least one of the canaliculi of the patient's eye. The temporary blockade may be produced by the placement of a piece of catgut in the canaliculus. The implant is constructed of a material that is nonabsorbable by the human body and is constructed to facilitate placement into and removal from the canaliculus.
