  • Patent number: 6497458
Abstract: The invention is directed to a bristle (1) suitable for use in a brush (4) or the like, and in particular in a toothbrush. The bristle (1) is made of a plastic material and includes preferably a circular area of cross-section. When viewed in cross-section, the bristle (1) includes two sections (2, 3) with different properties. These sections (2, 3) are not in concentric relative arrangement. As a result, the bristle (1) curves along its longitudinal axis. The curvature produces an improved cleaning action of the brush (4).

  • Patent number: 6295734
Abstract: A safety razor blade unit has a guard (2), a cap (3) and three parallel blades (11, 12, 13) mounted between the guard and cap, at least one of the blades, guard and cap being movable from an at rest (non-shaving) position to modify a blade exposure dimension to attain a target blade geometry, at which shaving is initiated, in which the exposure of the first blade (11) is not greater than zero and the exposure of the third blade (13) is not less than zero. At least one of the cap (3) and guard (2) can be movable against the force of a spring (21 or 20) from an at rest position in which all the blades between the guard and cap have their cutting edges disposed below a plane tangential to the skin contacting surfaces of the guard and cap. The blades can be independently sprung or carried for movement in unison on a carrier pivotally mounted in a frame of the blade unit.

  • Patent number: 6293953
Abstract: The invention is directed to an appliance for the epilation of the human skin, having a housing to accommodate a motor and a drive mechanism for driving at least one clamping device (43) by which the user's hairs can be extracted. Moreover, a stimulus mechanism is provided to reduce the sense of pain during epilation. This mechanism includes at least one element (55) that is movable toward and away from the skin when the appliance is placed in epilating position on the user's skin. According to certain embodiments of the present invention, the at least one element (55) has a free end (56) and is arranged adjacent to the side of the rotary clamping device (43). In consequence, the user perceives at least subjectively a reduced sense of pain during epilation. Still further, a method for epilation and a method for the use of the appliance of the present invention are described.

  • Patent number: 6276529
Abstract: Easy opening blister-type packaging unit (1) having upper and lower walls (2, 2′) and a convenient tear-open strip (5, 6, 7) inward of a peripheral seal (4) joining the walls to one another, and method of separating the seal from the blister pack to access a stored article, such as a razor set (16). Packaging unit (1) has upper and lower walls sealed together at peripheral joint (4) and has inward thereof a weakened region (5) formed through preferably both upper and lower walls, defining an opening strip (7). In preferred embodiments the upper and lower walls are semi-rigid plastic panels heat welded together along a periphery and perforated (6) adjacent the weld. To easily access the stored article, the user ruptures the weakened region, tears the opening strip away from the packaging unit to cause the upper and lower plastic material walls to separate.

  • Patent number: 6195828
Abstract: The invention is directed to a brush section (1) for an electric toothbrush. The brush section (1) has a mounting tube (2) in which is accommodated an actuatable plug-on shaft (3) mounted for rotation about a longitudinal axis (4), said shaft being equipped with a driving element (24) arranged eccentrically to the longitudinal axis (4). Further, the brush section (1) has a bristle carrier (8) mounted for rotation about a transverse axis (10) and equipped with a driven element (22) arranged eccentrically to the transverse axis (10) and coupled with the driving element (24). In this arrangement, a rotary movement (5) of the plug-on shaft (3) about the longitudinal axis (4) produces a rotary movement (25) of the bristle carrier (8) about the transverse axis (10. The plug-on shaft (3) and the bristle carrier (8) are braced against each other and/or against the mounting tube (2) by spring means. This prevents the occurrence of rattling noises in activated condition of the electric toothbrush.

  • Patent number: 6141819
Abstract: The invention is directed to a bristle (12) for a toothbrush, in particular for an electric toothbrush, which is made of plastic and includes several filaments (13, 14, 15) joined together. The filaments (13, 14, 15) are wound or braided and joined together as a result of the action of chemical agents. This results in a firm bond between the filaments (13, 14, 15), and any cavities between the filaments (13, 14, 15) are reliably avoided. Overall, a toothbrush results which, in addition to having a high cleaning effect, offers bacteria or other germs no possibility of infiltration.
