  • Patent number: 4076336
Abstract: The required pumping power for hydrostatic bearings is reduced with bearings having at least two lubricating areas bounded with a narrow raised perimeter of lower clearance. The lubricant is supplied under pressure and is retained with an area which is large enough to provide a low friction thick film of lubricant while the clearance at the narrow, raised perimeter is small enough to provide satisfactory control of lubricant loss rates. In particular embodiments, the raised perimeter is provided by sealing assembly mounted on one side of the sliding surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4006471
Abstract: A lock system controls exiting and entering of personnel, particularly in public and commercial structures by means of an alarm and a panic bar and key system to operate a lock through a series of interlocking controls including an internal panic bar, an internal key lock, an external key lock and a supplemental manual control. Four modes of operation are provided in which the panic bar is at all times operative and the alarm is selectively operative to provide, in addition to panic bar actuation or in combination therewith, authorized passage, authorized exit only, free passage in both directions and free exit only.

  • Patent number: 3999349
Abstract: A masonry wall comprising a plurality of laminated building blocks, wherein each block has an insulation layer laminated to one face. The length and breadth of the insulation layer exceed the corresponding dimensions of the block by the width of the mortar used to bond the blocks in place and the insulation layer is offset from two adjacent edges of the block. This structure is combined with critical dimensions relative to standard modular bricks to produce optimally large blocks for minimum labor and construction costs.

  • Patent number: 3997946
Abstract: A method of conveying pile fabrics, wherein portions of the fabric are selectively presented to the processing equipment in order to process the various portions differently. In carrying out the processing, the fabric is conveyed along a path adjacent to the processing units, which path is defined by separately controlling the distance of the fabric from two separate axes that are parallel to each other and transverse to the direction of fabric conveyance.

  • Patent number: 3997947
Abstract: A plurality of electrifier cylinders are arranged in tandem along the conveyance path of a synthetic pile fabric. Each cylinder is provided with surface grooves in opposite directions in order to introduce a bias of different directions to the individual fibers being treated. Individual speed and temperature controls are provided for these cylinders to effect a wide range of treatments.

  • Patent number: 3982239
Abstract: An addressed display system using material, such as liquid crystal, light emitting diodes, ferroelectrics, fluid flow devices, electroluminiscent materials, etc., which exhibit at least two characteristic modes of operation in accordance with the electric field applied. The materials are assembled with appropriately disposed conductors for establishing the electric field in discrete areas. These conductors are selectively addressed to effect a substantially zero potential at the discrete areas being chosen and at least a saturation potential across all other areas. The display embodiments include matrices, alphanumerics, and a chronometer.

  • Patent number: 3970339
Abstract: There is disclosed a latchbolt assembly which replaces conventional rectilinear latchbolt movement with dual direction swinging movement to reduce binding forces and which uses two independently operable dead latches in association with the dual swinging motions of the latchbolt. To facilitate release, as by key or panic bar actuation, the load of the latchbolt mass and friction is substantially eliminated by coupling the release system to one of the dead latches and thereafter utilizing camming action derived from the opening of the door to swing the latchbolt out of its keeper. Thus hard pressure against the door will not hamper the release. The second dead latch is operated by a latch feeler finger which frees the latchbolt only when the door is open thereby to facilitate relatching by swinging into the keeper as the door closes.

  • Patent number: 3964098
Abstract: A tape deck for cartridge-encased record tapes in which the cartridge is precisely secured in a predetermined position in the tape deck in relation to its transducer and to the tape drive. The tape drive is interposed in the path of insertion of the cartridge to engage the tape-actuating mechanism in the cartridge when the cartridge is positioned in the deck. A drive motor is remotely disposed with respect to the cartridge and is coupled to the cartridge drive through a belt mechanism which allows displacement of the drive wheel through the agency of a flexural hinge support.
