Abstract: The process of recovering precious metals from ores containing precious metals, such as gold and silver, from an aqueous ammoniacal thiosulfate leach solution to provide a significant practical and economical process for the recovery of gold or silver is disclosed. After leaching of the ore with an aqueous ammoniacal thiosulfate solution, the leach solution is contacted with a precious metal extraction reagent to extract the precious metal values from the leach solution, after which the precious metal values are stripped from the extraction reagent to form a concentrated solution of the precious metal values from which the precious metals may be recovered by conventional methods such as electrolysis. The extraction reagents are those having guanidyl functionality or a quaternary amine functionality mixed with a weak organic acid such as a phenol. In the process, novel thiosulfate complexes of the precious metals are formed with the quanidyl or the quaternary amine extractants.

Abstract: A process for removing and recovering ammonia from the organic extraction phase in a metal liquid-liquid extraction process in which at least one ammoniacal aqueous solution (either a leach feed solution containing the metal to be extracted or an aqueous stripping solution employed to strip the metal values from the organic phase) is contacted with the organic phase which comprises a water insoluble, water immiscible hydrocarbon solvent solution of a water insoluble organic extractant for the metal.
Abstract: A process for preparing high detergency or surfactant alkyl polyglycoside compositions and a purified alkyl monoglycoside and to compositions employing the polyglycosides for various end use applications. The process involves removal of a substantial portion of the monoglycoside present in a reaction product mixture containing alkyl polyglycosides resulting from the reaction of an alcohol and saccharide at elevated temperatures in the presence of an acid catalyst. Separation of the monoglycoside from the reaction product mixture may be carried out by molecular distillation.

Abstract: A two-layer, vibration-absorbing and anti-corrosive, abrasion-resistant coating for rigid substrates, in particular for sheet metals in the underbody region of motor vehicles, for reducing the noise caused by impacting particles, comprises an inner layer, facing the substrate, of a polymer A and a plasticizer P.sub.1, and a covering layer of a polymer B and a plasticizer P.sub.2, such that either the polymers A and B have a different chemical composition and the polymer A is essentially incompatible with the plasticizer P.sub.2 and the polymer B is essentially incompatible with the plasticizer P.sub.1, or both layers contain essentially the same concentration of one plasticizer (P.sub.1 =P.sub.2), so that there is no risk of one layer being impaired by the plasticizer from the other layer.
Abstract: The process of preparing granules of sodium perborate monohydrate having an increased density by dry-compacting a mixture of sodium perborate monohydrate and from about 0.2 to about 30% by weight of a compacting aid, based on the weight of the mixture. The compacting aid is selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal salt, alkaline earth metal salt, carbohydrate, anionic surfactant, and nonionic surfactant. After forming a compactate of the mixture, the compactate is size-reduced to obtain granules having the desired particle size.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a process for preparing a sealant and adhesive useful, e.g., in double glazing systems. The sealant comprises 20-80 weight percent epoxidized natural rubber, 5-30 weight percent of at least one further epoxy compound, and, as a crosslinking agent, a polyamine or polymercaptan carrying trialkoxysilyl groups. The crosslinking agent is incorporated into the epoxidized natural rubber in one step.
