  • Patent number: 5128342
Abstract: Anti-microbial compositions in the form of dry powders substantially instantly soluble in water, which exhibit stability for prolonged periods of time even at elevated temperatures of up to about 130.degree. F., obtained by admixing an organic surfactant in which substantially all of the available oxidizable groups have been replaced with fluorine to form a perfluoro surfactant, with a chlorinated isocyanuric acid. Preferably the anti-microbial compositions are obtained by admixing the following: trichloroisocyanuric acid, potassium hydroxide in an amount sufficient to neutralize the trichloroisocyanuric acid to its potassium salt, a fluorinated anionic surfactant, potassium monohydrogen phosphate and potassium bicarbonate.

  • Patent number: 5119867
Abstract: An awning support structure has lateral arms with shoulder ends which are pivotably mounted to load-adjusting mounting members secured to a mounting portion of a building. The load-adjusting mounting members allow the lateral arms to deflect in the upward or downward directions, in order to allow the awning structure to absorb and/or shed the load. The preferred mounting members have urethane compression joints securing the shoulder ends of the lateral arms to shoulder brackets fixed to a support tube which is secured to the building.

  • Patent number: 5114510
Abstract: A lightweight structural panel is formed by subjecting a surface of a metal cover sheet to an oxidizing treatment to remove any foreign substances thereon, applying an adhesive layer to a core member, and bonding the treated surface of the metal cover sheet to the adhesive layer on the core member. Preferably, the oxidizing treatment is by electron plasma surface treatment for a period of time sufficient to oxidize any oil, chemical film, or rust on the surface of the metal sheet. The core member is made of a plastic material which may also be subjected to electron plasma surface treatment. The metal cover sheet may instead be flame-treated, or treated with oxidizing chemicals such as hydrazine. Metal cover sheets may be bonded on both sides of the plastic core.

  • Patent number: 5099600
Abstract: A technique and equipment for grafting are disclosed. The technique involves forming a wedge on a scion, forming a cleft or side cut in rootstock, forming a union with the scion and rootstock, binding the union with budding strips, and coating the wrapped union with liquid paraffin wax. Clothespin type clamps are advantageously employed to releasably close the cleft, prior to forming the union, and for securing the union during binding. Grafting tools are provided in a grafting tool kit and include a knife, budding strips, paraffin wax, a brush, a metal cup, hand pruners, whet rocks and honing oil, alcohol and paper towels, and clothespins. The paraffin wax is applied to the bound union in a clear liquid state at 175.degree.-200.degree. F., and preferably at an ambient temperature of at least 38.degree. F. and less than 15 mph winds.

  • Patent number: 5094751
Abstract: A liquid intake assembly includes a filter member having a shower ring for removing solids from the outside surface of the filter member. The shower ring has an annular portion surrounding the filter member and a plurality of nozzle members for directing pressurized fluid in streams adjacent to and generally parallel to the outside surface of the filter member. The streams generate currents in the suspension removing the solids from the outside surface of the filter member.

  • Patent number: 5076035
Abstract: A channel assembly for mounting exterior panels on a structural member of a building has extruded support members which cooperate with a filler strip. The support members have grooves for holding the peripheral edges of respective panels to be mounted adjacent each other spaced apart by an intermediate space, and projections from opposite sides into the intermediate space. A filler strip is pressed into the intermediate space in sealing engagement with the projections. The support members have linking members with ends extending into the intermediate space closely adjacent each other, and mounting washers or a ledger strip are used to secure the ends of the linking members together and to mount them to a structural member of a building. The filler strip may be a V-shaped snap-in strip having a spine portion and a pair of compressible legs, or a compressible strip or tube which is pushed into the intermediate space and sealed therein with caulking.

  • Patent number: 5052595
Abstract: A closure cap for a container has a mounting part mounted on the container neck with a closure element over the container opening surrounded by small openings, and a movable part for covering the openings around the closure element when it is moved from an opened to a closed position. The movable part has a passage formed by walls in the shape of a truncated cone defining an external orifice of small openings of a given open area and an internal orifice of a larger open area which is recessed inwardly from the external orifice. The difference in orifice area creates a suction force to suck fluid back into the orifices when the container is returned to the upright position.

  • Patent number: 5023355
Abstract: A process for the preparation of stabilized B-carotene wherein polysorbate is heated under an inert atmosphere to about 100.degree. to about 120.degree. C. in the presence of butylated hydroxytoluene for a period of time sufficient to allow substantially all of the water present in the polysorbate to be driven off. The temperature is then increased to about 160.degree. to about 180.degree. C. and the resultant polysorbate product further heated at this temperature while maintaining the inert atmosphere and under strong stirring for 1 to 11/2 hours. The thus heated polysorbate is then cooled rapidly to about 100.degree. to about 120.degree. C. and 2.0 to 4.0% by weight of B-carotene, based on the weight of the polysorbate, introduced under strong stirring in the presence of para-aminobenzoic acid and a conventional antioxidant such as butylhydroxyquinone under containued maintenance of the inert atmosphere. The resulting liquid composition is cooled to room temperature.
