Abstract: An apparatus for air treatment includes at least one reservoir which can be filled with a liquid, an air-conveying device and a device which ensures that for the treatment of the air to be treated the air comes into contact with at least a part of the liquid. A circulating device is provided, by which liquid in the reservoir is conveyed in a circuit out of the reservoir and back into the latter. For the purpose of sterilising the liquid, a device for mechanico-physical opening of cell membranes, for instance by electroporation or cavitation, is provided in the circuit. Such an apparatus can also be used for purifying exhaust air in a surface treatment installation.
Abstract: This invention relates to a collar device that limits the head movement for a canine or feline pet while the pet is recuperating from surgery or injury. The collar may be fitted with removable ear guards. The collar is capable of being coupled to a leash so the animal can be taken on a walk with the protective collar in an operative position.
Abstract: By using a microfabrication technique such as nanoimprinting, a structure for cell culture comprising: a concavo-convex structure having a plurality of successive unit structures each formed in a polygonal shape in a planar direction and having a minimum internal diameter of less than or equal to 3 ?m, wherein a width between adjoining unit structures is less than or equal to 3 ?m, a concavo-convex depth is greater than or equal to 10 nm, and the concavo-convex structure functions as a cell adherence surface. By culturing cells in this structure or a cell culture vessel comprising this structure integrated therein, a structure having a spheroid or a vessel having a spheroid, in which a spheroid with lamellipodia has been formed, can be obtained. Thus, it is possible to produce the structure or the cell culture vessel in which the shape, size and material of the peak-and-valley structure are controlled. Furthermore, a spheroid suitable for, e.g.

Abstract: An athletic surface having a resilient layer operatively positioned on the supporting structure including a top playing surface; and a bottom surface associated with the supporting base structure. The bottom surface associated with the supporting base structure includes a first side surface and a second side surface, both of which extend in the longitudinal direction of the layer. The said bottom surface also includes a first end surface and a second end surface, both of which extend in the transverse direction of the layer. The top playing surface of the athletic flooring system includes a drainage facilitating means associated with the top surface.
Abstract: A drainage system for use with a synthetic grass surface, the system having a base having a center portion with a first depth and a perimeter channel with a second depth being greater than the first depth, a plurality of tiles above the base, and a synthetic grass above the plurality of tiles. Also, a business method facilitates installation of a synthetic grass system which utilizes drainage tiles positioned between a stone base and the bottom of the synthetic turf, wherein a mold for manufacturing the tile is provided from the turf company to a manufacturing company located in relatively close proximity to where the synthetic turf system is to be installed.

Abstract: A particulate composite fuel of metal preferably of aluminum for a portable heater. The fuel reacts with oxygen in the air, producing heat. The composite fuel may also be flaked aluminum or iron nanopowder. A portable heater having a fuel mass, at least one thermal conductive member, and at least one insulating member. The heater transfers the heat of the oxidation of the metal particulate fuel to a desired mass to be heated, typically a food item. The multilayered heater also acts as a buffer absorbing released heat and releasing the heat to the desired mass at a rate slower than the absorbing.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the set relative position of a patient in a dental panorama X-ray apparatus during which the curvature of a front area of a dental arch of a patient is determined. Set position coordinates for the patient are calculated based on this curvature and on a projection arch surface. In addition, the curvature of a middle area and/or of a rear area of the dental arch is determined and is taken into consideration during the calculation of the position coordinates. During a method for determining the set path of a diagnostic unit, the curvature of a front area of a dental arch of a patient is determined and is fixed at a location in the X-ray apparatus located within the space scanned by an X-ray source and by a detector unit. In addition, the curvature of a middle area and/or of a rear area of the dental arch is determined and a set path curve for the diagnostic unit is calculated based on the measured curvatures.
Abstract: An electronic lock utilizes two microprocessors remote from each other for enhanced security. The first microprocessor is disposed close to an input device such as a keypad, and the second microprocessor is disposed close to the lock mechanism and well protected from external access. The first microprocessor transmits a communication code to the second microprocessor when it receives via the input device an access code that matches a preset access code. The second microprocessor opens the lock if the transmitted communication code matches a preset communication code. The dual-microprocessor arrangement is advantageously used in a voice controlled access control system and in a motorcycle ignition control system. The present invention further provides an electronic access control system which has a master electronic key having a preset number of access, and an electronic alarm system for a bicycle that has a remote control mounted in the helmet of the rider.

Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the blood oxygen level of a patient is disclosed. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a housing having an interior surface of non-reflective material substantially surrounding an interior. A cooperating light source and detector are operatively positioned proximate the interior surface so as to emit and receive light projected within the interior of the housing. A material more conducive to light transmission, reflectance, or a combination thereof—as compared to the interior surface material—is positioned proximate the light source and/or detector.

Abstract: An airstrip shoulder-bordering surface arrangement for extending the width of existing runway and taxiway shoulders comprising a flexible water-impermeable surfacing material extending laterally of a side edge of an airstrip shoulder, an artificial grass surface adjacent the water-impermeable surfacing material, and an edge-fastening system for securing the surfacing material in position relative to the airstrip shoulder to prevent water migration therebetween, the surfacing material having a relatively smooth top surface.
Abstract: A roller conveyor in an as such known manner includes a plurality of driven rollers disposed in two parallel tracks. With each driven roller a drive motor is associated. From a first voltage source a first set of the driven rollers is supplied, wherein a second voltage source is provided, from which a further set of the driven rollers is supplied. This arrangement offers a high degree of redundancy in the event of the failure of individual components of the roller drive, thereby guaranteeing an emergency operation in such a situation.
Abstract: A pair of binoculars has lenses constituting optical filters with a transmissivity range within the wavelength range between about 650 nm and at least 800 nm and also with an additional transmissivity band within a wavelength range from about 310 nm to about 600 nm. The objects viewed with such a pair of binoculars appear as an image that is carried by a satin-finished metallic surface.
Abstract: The invention relates to a plant for the treatment, in particular the cataphoretic dip coating of objects, in particular of vehicle chassis, comprising at least one transport car (5) which runs the objects (4) through the plant and introduces and retrieves the above to and from several treatment containers. The transport car (5) comprises a chassis (7, 8, 9 to 12), which travels along the trajectory of the objects (4), at least one pivot arm (50, 51), connected to the chassis (7, 8, 9 to 12), a mounting (61) joined to the pivot arm (50, 51), for at least one object. The translational displacement and the pivoting displacement of the at least one pivot arm (50, 51) and the mounting (61) are effected by independent drive devices.
