  • Patent number: 8100090
Abstract: Apparatus and method for an animal harness and restraint system is provided. An animal restraint is created from a single continuous piece of cord in which a loop is fashioned in the rope approximately half way from each free end of the rope. Beginning with the loop placed over the rear neck area of an animal above its shoulders, each free end of the rope is brought around opposite sides of the animal neck, down the chest of the animal with several twists of the rope combining both free ends then separating. Each free end of the rope is then brought separately around the front leg of the animal to meet the loop with each end being pulled there through and to the rear of the animal to fashion a leash. The free ends may be wrapped twice through the looped portion to fashion a simple prusik-like friction means to secure the thus fashioned harness but allows slipping of the rope as may be desirable as the animal moves.

  • Patent number: 7869718
Abstract: A wireless, automatic door obstruction detection system for protecting a motorized door or gate by signaling various hazardous conditions and reacting to said conditions by signaling control means. The invention utilizes wireless infrared emitter, receiver and controller apparatus. Infrared pulse timing data is sent as pulse repetition rate changes depending upon battery condition. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the photoelectric transmitter emits timed pulse groups to present control information differentiating between a good battery and a low battery condition in the wireless transmitter. A wireless photoelectric transmitter extends the time period between pulse groups to indicate a low battery condition. A low battery condition signaling thereby presents a low power drain condition allowing for an extended period of low battery condition signaling.

  • Patent number: 6795807
Abstract: A device and a method to be used by laryngeally impaired people to improve the naturalness of their speech. An artificial sound creating mechanism which forms a simulated glottal pulse in the vocal tract is utilized. An artificial glottal pulse is compared with the natural spectrum and an inverse filter is generated to provide an output signal which would better reproduce natural sound. A digital signal processor introduces a variation of pitch based on an algorithm developed for this purpose; i.e. creating prosody. The algorithm uses primarily the relative amplitude of the speech signal and the rise and fall rates of the amplitude as a basis for setting the frequency of the speech. The invention also clarifies speech of laryngectomees by sensing the presence of consonants in the speech and appropriately amplifying them with respect to the vowel sounds.
