  • Patent number: 6029337
Abstract: Micromotors are fabricated with utilitarian features on their rotors. In some embodiments, the features are formed by the molded addition of material on top of a rotor surface. In other embodiments, the features are formed by the provision of an additional layer on top of the rotor, and the selective removal of material therefrom. In yet other embodiments, the features are defined by the selective removal of material from the rotor itself. The disclosure is particularly illustrated with reference to the fabrication of a polygon (nickel) mirror on a polysilicon, electrostatic micromotor rotor for use in scanning applications. However, the principles of the invention can likewise be applied to fabrication of a variety of other features, such as optical gratings, shutters, mechanical actuators, pump impellers and fins, and to a variety of different micromotor constructions.

  • Patent number: 6029007
Abstract: A digital semiconductor integrated circuit is equipped with: a digital signal input circuit; an analog signal input circuit made receptive of an analog signal for feeding out a digital signal corresponding to the analog signal; and a common external terminal connected commonly with the input terminals of the digital signal input circuit and the analog signal input circuit. By a suitable switch circuit, the common external terminal can be used as either an analog signal input terminal or a digital signal input terminal. As a result, the number of the external output terminals required can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6017424
Abstract: A surface reformation method of a high polymer material irradiates an excimer-laser beam to only a predetermined area in which electronic parts and the like are temporarily immobilized by a liquid on a substrate which has a high polymer layer on the surface. The wettability of the liquid for temporary immobilization only with respect to the predetermined area is improved. After the electronic parts are temporarily immobilized on the substrate by using the method, the electronic parts can be durably soldered by fluxless reflow soldering.

  • Patent number: 6015356
Abstract: The present invention is directed to improved multi-layer golf ball compositions having a core, an inner cover and an outer cover and the resulting regulation balls produced using these compositions. In this regard, a smaller and lighter core is produced and metal particles, or other heavy weight filler materials, are included in the inner cover compositions. This results in a molded golf ball exhibiting enhanced interior perimeter weighting. the heavy weight filler particles, such as powdered metals, are included in a relatively thick inner cover layer (or mantle) formed from an ionomer resin of a solid, three-piece multi-layered golf ball. The size and weight of the core can thereby be reduced in order to produce an overall golf ball which meets, or is less than, the 1.62 ounce maximum weight limitation specified by the United States Golf Association.

  • Patent number: 6012200
Abstract: An upright vacuum cleaner includes a nozzle base (12) with at least one suction opening (60) formed therein. A rotatable brushroll (64) is positioned adjacent to the suction opening (60) for agitating a surface being cleaned. A suction source (54) is housed within the nozzle base (12). A dust cup assembly (70) is releasably connected to the nozzle base (12). The dust cup assembly (70) connects the suction source (54) and the suction opening (60) in fluid communication. A filter assembly (90) including a handle (101) is positioned between the dust cup assembly (70) and the suction source (54) to block the passage of dirt and dust to the suction source (54). A handle (10) is pivotally connected to the nozzle base (12) and includes an upper handle grip (22) including a hooked portion (24) for hanging the upright vacuum cleaner. First and second wings (74a, 74b) extend from opposite lateral sides of the dust cup cover (72) to facilitate the separation of the dust cup assembly (70) and the nozzle base (12).

  • Patent number: 6011353
Abstract: This invention consists of an improved design and assembly process the for manufacture of a single ended quartz (SEQ) lamp for projection applications. The lamp (A) includes a hermetically sealed envelope (10) which houses a filament (15). A ceramic base (12) receives the envelope in a receiving slot (26). Cement fill in the slot, around the hermetic seal, bonds the envelope to the base. Ends (18,20) of the filament extend into the seal region (22) and are electrically connected to a power source by three-part leads (14,16). This invention consists of a much simpler two-pin prefocus ceramic base SEQ lamp design that is made with fewer parts and is much easier and faster to assemble to enable much reduced labor and cost. Also, the ceramic base is smaller and exposes more of the quartz lamp seal to the surroundings to enable more effective cooling during lamp operation to prevent lamp failures from overheated seals.

  • Patent number: 6012124
Abstract: With respect to the disk drives provided power from a single power source in a disk drive system, start up power is first supplied to a first start-up group of the disks, preferably comprising all of the master disks, with the size of the group being selected so that the required current does not exceed the capacity of the power source. When the disk drives of the first group have substantially reached steady state, start-up is conducted with respect to a second start-up group of the disk drives so that the current required during start-up for the second group and the current required for steady state drive of the first start-up group does not exceed the capacity of the power source. With respect to each start-up group, the number of disk drives is the maximum integer value and decreases or remains the same with respect to subsequent start-up groups.

  • Patent number: 6009438
Abstract: Browsing data in the format selected by a user can be created by using the existing art. Video and audio can be browsed by designating only the portion to be browsed. A system for creating a compound document is used so as to create browsing data from application data. When audio data and videa data are played, a concept of a virtual page is introduced so that they can be browsed in page units.

  • Patent number: 6005682
Abstract: The system achieves high-resolution imaging with low-resolution two-dimensional imagers whose sensors are only a fraction of a selected pixel area. Sensors are stepped across an image with an optical or mechanical stepper to acquire an image at each sensor position. Thereby, resolution is defined by a step size which is comparable to the sensor size, rather than by pixel resolution. The system thus uses multiple image, obtained from individual sensors, which have a sensed area substantially less than the area of the pixels of the sensor array. Such rescanning is accomplished by movable mirrors or lenses that are disposed between an illuminated specimen and a sensor area.

  • Patent number: 6006304
Abstract: A system includes a microcomputer. The microcomputer includes a clock signal circuit, a measuring circuit, a central processing unit, and a flash memory. A user sets a frequency of a clock signal provided by the clock signal circuit. The measuring unit counts a number of cycles of the clock signal in a period specified by reference data. The central processing unit receives the clock signal from the clock signal circuit and operates in accordance with the clock signal. The flash memory stores data which is electrically erased during an erase operation. The erase operation is executed during an erase time which includes a number of cycles of the clock signal calculated by the central processing unit. The central processing unit calculates a time for one cycle of the clock signal as a function of the period specified by the reference data and the number of cycles counted by the measuring unit.

  • Patent number: 6005537
Abstract: The liquid-crystal display control apparatus provided by the present invention comprises a display RAM unit 21 for storing character codes, character-generator RAM and ROM units 22 and 23 for storing character font patterns and a segment RAM unit 24 for storing picture patterns such as marks and icons. When displaying a character, the following display control is carried out. First of all, a character code is read out from the display RAM unit 21 at a display address generated by a display-address counter 25. The character code is then used in conjunction with a raster address output by a line-address counter 26 for reading out a character font pattern from the character-generator RAM unit 22 or the character-generator ROM unit 23. When displaying a picture pattern such as a mark or an icon, on the other hand, the following display control is carried out. Display control information is read out from the segment RAM unit 24 at an address generated by the display-address counter 25.
