Patent number: 8332522Abstract: A system establishes virtual DNS servers that are supported by a DNS server. Target IP addresses are assigned for the virtual DNS servers. Network capable devices are uniquely assigned to the virtual DNS servers for domain name resolution. Each network capable device accesses the communication network through a corresponding network device associated with a corresponding source IP address. A client's service plan is assigned to a first network capable device used by the client. The service plan is implemented through a DNS request under a session established between the first network capable device and its assigned first virtual DNS server. The session is uniquely identified by a first source IP address of a first network device used by the first network capable device to access the communication network and a first target IP address of the first virtual DNS server.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2012Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Kount Inc.Inventor: Timothy P. Patent number: 8332556Abstract: A memory bus with a first bus segment coupled to a memory controller that includes control logic and a first memory device, a second bus segment coupled to a second memory device, and a switch between the first bus segment and the second bus segment. The control logic outputs control information to the switch to selectively decouple the first bus segment and the second bus segment to effect a change in the length of the memory bus to enable data transfer with respect to the first memory device at a first data rate. Additionally, the control logic may output control information to the switch to selectively couple the first bus segment and the second bus segment to increase the length of the memory bus to enable data transfer with respect to the second memory device at a second data rate that is slower than the first data rate.Type: GrantFiled: January 12, 2012Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Rambus Inc.Inventors: Steven C. Patent number: 8331739Abstract: OCR errors are identified and corrected through learning. An error probability estimator is trained using ground truths to learn error probability estimation. Multiple OCR engines process a text image, and convert it into texts. The error probability estimator compares the outcomes of the multiple OCR engines for mismatches, and determines an error probability for each of the mismatches. If the error probability of a mismatch exceeds an error probability threshold, a suspect is generated and grouped together with similar suspects in a cluster. A question for the cluster is generated and rendered to a human operator for answering. The answer from the human operator is then applied to all suspects in the cluster to correct OCR errors in the resulting text. The answer is also used to further train the error probability estimator.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Google Inc.Inventors: Ahmad Abdulkader, Matthew R. Patent number: 8332068Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for controlling a robot having at least two legs that is falling down from an upright posture. An allowable stepping zone where the robot is able to step while falling is determined. The allowable stepping zone may be determined based on leg Jacobians of the robot and maximum joint velocities of the robot. A stepping location within the allowable stepping zone for avoiding an object is determined. The determined stepping location maximizes an avoidance angle comprising an angle formed by the object to be avoided, a center of pressure of the robot upon stepping to the stepping location, and a reference point of the robot upon stepping to the stepping location. The reference point, which may be a capture point of the robot, indicates the direction of fall of the robot. The robot is controlled to take a step toward the stepping location.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Ambarish Goswami, Seung-kook Yun, Yoshiaki Sakagami

Patent number: 8332947Abstract: When a client receives a potential threat source (PTS), a user of the client may desire to make an informed decision regarding the PTS. The PTS can be, for example, an email or instant message with an embedded executable, a link to a network destination (e.g., included in search engine results or an email, or webpage), or an executable file (e.g., downloaded from a website). The PTS is identified and characterized to establish a threat rating. The threat rating can then be presented to the user, so as to inform the user as to the PTS riskiness. The threat rating is determined in light of the local security tools available. If there are no local security tools that mitigate the threat of the PTS, then a security tool that is known to mitigate the threat can be identified and recommended to the user.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2006Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Symantec CorporationInventors: Mark Bregman, William E. Patent number: 8332231Abstract: An interactive voice and data response system that directs input to a voice, text, and web-capable software-based router, which is able to intelligently respond to the input by drawing on a combination of human agents, advanced speech recognition and expert systems, connected to the router via a TCP/IP network. The digitized input is broken down into components so that the customer interaction is managed as a series of small tasks performed by a pool of human agents, rather than one ongoing conversation between the customer and a single agent. The router manages the interactions and keeps pace with a real-time conversation. The system utilizes both speech recognition and human intelligence for purposes of interpreting customer utterances or customer text, where the role of the human agent(s) is to input the intent of caller utterances, and where the computer system—not the human agent—determines which response to provide given the customer's stated intent (as interpreted/captured by the human agents).Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2009Date of Patent: December 11, 2012Assignee: Interactions, LLCInventor: Michael Eric Cloran

Patent number: 8325336Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for combining a soil sample and extractant in a mixing chamber to produce a liquid extractant-soil mixture. A portion of the liquid extractant-soil mixture is directed from the mixing chamber through a sample measurement chamber coupled to the mixing chamber. The sample measurement chamber is coupled to a light source so that light propagates from the light source through the portion of the liquid extractant-soil mixture to an optical detector which generates an attenuation spectrum indicating light received by the detector at different wavelengths. The sample measurement chamber may include an attenuation cell having a specified optical path between a first measurement window and a second measurement window and angular surface directing particulates in the liquid extractant-soil mixture away from the attenuation cell.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2012Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignee: Solum, Inc.Inventors: Michael John Preiner, Nicholas Carleton Koshnick, Justin Stewart White, John Paul Strachan

Patent number: 8326780Abstract: The present invention provides a method for learning a policy used by a computing system to perform a task, such delivery of one or more objects by the computing system. During a first time interval, the computing system determines a first state, a first action and a first reward value. As the computing system determines different states, actions and reward values during subsequent time intervals, a state description identifying the current sate, the current action, the current reward and a predicted action is stored. Responsive to a variance of a stored state description falling below a threshold value, the stored state description is used to modify one or more weights in the policy associated with the first state.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2009Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Rakesh Gupta, Deepak Ramachandran
