  • Patent number: 4932621
Abstract: A support pedestal for a gas cylinder of the type which has a cylindrical-shaped base projecting from the rounded lower end of the main body of the gas cylinder. The pedestal has a body which has a cylindrical-shaped bore proportioned to receive the cylindrical-shaped base of a gas cylinder in free fitting relationship. The body also has an upper face which includes a support section which extends radially outwardly and upwardly from the bore at a height which will permit it to function as a seat for a portion of the rounded lower end of a gas cylinder seated on the pedestal in use. The body also has a wide base upon which it rests. The base is sufficiently wide to project laterally beyond the outer circumference of the gas cylinder which it is designed to support in order to provide a stable support for supporting the gas clyinder in an upright position.

  • Patent number: 4928905
Abstract: In a reel assembly of a tape cassette a one-way clutch mechanism is provi which serves to prevent rotation of the reel in the direction required for the purposes of rewinding a tape thereon. The one-way clutch mechanism includes a slipway channel which extends circumferentially of the axis of rotation of the reel. The reel assembly includes a first clutch member which is designed to be driven by the power output shaft of the winding mechanism and a second member which is designed to be held fast with respect to the cassette. A slipway channel is formed at an interface between the first and second clutch members such that a portion of the channel is formed in the first member and a portion of the channel is formed in the second member. A pawl displacing ring is mounted in the slipway channel so that it bears against the second member and is drivingly connected to the first member by means of a pawl.

  • Patent number: 4929136
Abstract: The devices are floating engageable means which may be a floating nut or a floating driver for use in hostile environment, such as space. The device includes a housing with a cross-shaped opening, each arm of the cross receiving a wing of a floating member. A spring between the base of the housing and the back of the floating member urges the wings against the top surface of the arms of the cross-shaped opening in the housing. The cross-shaped openings may have a rectangular configuration with a thread surface forming the top surface of the opening. This permits the floating member to maintain a lateral offset. Alternatively, the arms may have a triangular outline with the vertex forming the top surface of the arms. With this configuration, a force will be provided to center the floating member in the housing. The floating member terminates in a an outwardly facing taper guiding surface which tapers to the engaging means of the floating member. With this arrangement, off axis and off angle mating is possible.

  • Patent number: 4922688
Abstract: In a load transporting conveyor of the type which has a plurality of load confining compartments located thereon which are transported by the conveyor along a load transporting path, there is provided a load settling mechanism. The load settling mechanism includes a load support platform which forms a bottom wall of each compartment. Resilient suspension members support the bottom wall with respect to the conveyor such that it is free to vibrate with respect to the conveyor. A vibration activator mechanism is located along the load transporting path so as to engage successive load support platforms as they are transported along the load transporting path to cause the load support platform to vibrate to thereby vibrate any load which is located thereon to cause the load to settle into the load confining compartment.

  • Patent number: 4924449
Abstract: A positionable transducer array on a stationary platform proximate a layered site on the seabed coherently insonifies locations at the site with a signal having a selected power, resultant center frequency, beamwidth, bandwidth, shape and incident angle. A positionable receiver array on the platform captures the return signals. Sub-surface acoustical properties of the location are then predicted from the return signals and a calculation of the speed of sound in water at the site. Subsequent locations at the site are then interrogated and an interpolation is made of acoustical properties between locations to develop a model of the acoustical properties at the site.

  • Patent number: 4897314
Abstract: An improved phenol formaldehyde resin not requiring fillers or extenders and capable of bonding wafers or veneers having a moisture content of 10% or above is disclosed. The adhesive composition is prepared by mixing together a caustic solution of a high molecular weight PF resin, a dispersion of PF resin which is characterized in that it can swell in aqueous caustic medium but not go into solution, and alkylene carbonates or phenol resorcinol formaldehyde resins. Optionally, borax is utilized. The disperse phase is made by converting a solution of PF resin into a fine particle size particulate form by precipitation, spray drying or freeze drying, and partially cross-linking the resin during or subsequent to the formation of the fine particle size dispersion. The PF resin is partially cross-linked by (a) heat, by (b) acid catalysis, or by (c) a reaction with cross-linking chemicals.
