  • Patent number: 5146897
Abstract: An intake manifold for a multi cylinder internal combustion engine has a common upstream passage and individual downstream passages, leading individually to cylinders of the engine, respectively. These individual downstream passages are connected between a downstream end of the common upstream passage and the cylinders. Upstream end portions of the individual downstream passages are symmetrically located around a fuel injector, disposed downstream relative to the common upstream passage, and are joined together. At a center of the symmetrically joined upstream end portions of the individual downstream passages, fuel passages are provided to open independently into the upstream end portions so as to introduce fuel from the fuel injector into the individual downstream passages.

  • Patent number: 5146840
Abstract: An automatic baking apparatus for making food products in piece form from dough-like substances which apparatus has holding means adapted to be fixed to the top and bottom edges of a flexible sealable mixbag (100) containing dry ingredients and water. The baking apparatus has upper and lower drums (230,232) and means for moving the drums, and the mixbag has male protrusions (134, 134a) at the upper and lower edges so that the mixbag (100) can be attached respectively to the upper and lower drums (230, 232). The holding means on the upper and lower drums is in the form of a female groove (234, 234a) commensurate in shape with the male protrusions (134, 134a) on the mixbag so that the mixbag male protrusions can be detachably interlocked with the female grooves on the drums. In this way the mixbag is attached to the drums for a kneading process in the baking apparatus and after the kneading process is completed, the mixbag is rolled up onto the lower drum (232).

  • Patent number: 5144722
Abstract: A furniture hinge comprises a pivotally movable hinge member, which is adapted to be secured to a door or flap and is connected by two links to a hinge bracket, which is adapted to be connected to a base plate, which is adapted to be secured to a carrying wall. The bracket is slidably guided on the base plate at least in the direction of the depth of a piece of furniture and is adapted to be secured thereto in various depths of insertion by a clamp screw. A stop is provided for limiting the insertion of the hinge bracket in the direction of the depth of the piece of funiture. In order to ensure that the gap between the door and the corups of the furniture will have a predetermined width after the hinge bracket has been pivotally moved to effect a lateral adjustment of the door, an adjusting screw which bears on the base plate is screwed into the hinge bracket and is operable to impart to said hinge bracket a pivotal movement for effecting a lateral adjustment of the door or flap.

  • Patent number: 5145163
Abstract: A film sheet load magazine is adapted to hold a stack of superimposed films with at least central portions of the films in a curved configuration and leading ends of the films adjacent a film separator mechanism. The curvature of the films is such that they retain themselves in desired positions in the magazine independent of the orientation of the films with respect to gravity. When a top cover of the magazine is opened, floating primary feed rollers are raised by spring-biasing assemblies to facilitate loading of the films under the rollers, and when the top cover is subsequently closed, the rollers are moved into feeding engagement with an innermost film, and the films are held in position by leaf biasing springs. A cleaning mechanism removes contaminants from the primary feed rollers, which feed each film to secondary feed rollers driven at a faster speed than the primary feed rollers.

  • Patent number: 5146222
Abstract: A coding unit for coding an audio signal by using an adaptive orthogonal transformation and a coding method comprises calculating the sum total of power of an input audio signal in a time duration of an orthogonal transform length or over the length, adaptively controlling the minimum audible level as a threshold level corresponding to the power level on a frequency axis after the orthogonal transformation or on a time axis before the orthogonal transformation, excepting samples having a power level under the threshold level from orthogonally transformed samples and quantizing remaining samples. The threshold level of the minimum audible level is adaptively controlled corresponding to an observed level of an input audio signal. Even if the input audio signal has various power levels, it is possible to usually set the adaptively audible value (the threshold level), thereby effectively reducing a coding amount.

  • Patent number: 5145753
Abstract: A noble solid electrolyte fuel cell includes a generating layer (5), an interconnector layer (9), and a support layer (10) disposed between the generating and interconnector layers. The interconnector layer comprises a fuel electrode (6), an interconnector material (7) and an oxygen electrode (8). The support layer (10) forms a fuel passage and an oxidizer passage, and supporting rods (15, 102) for gas sealing are disposed at both ends of the support layer. A sealing film (110) is cemented to the contact surfaces of the supporting rods (15, 102) between the generating layer and the interconnector layer, and this sealing film becomes soft or half melted during the operation of the fuel cell. This construction provides improved cell performances due to better sealing of gases even under large temperature differences. The use of finer particles near the surface of the solid electrolyte only is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5146206
Abstract: A patient ambulation motion detector intended for attachment to a patient's body. The detector includes a motion sensor switch and a detachment detector switch which are mounted on a circuit board, the circuit board being in turn enclosed within an attachment casing which is attachable to a lateral surface of the patient's body. The motion sensor comprises three SPST mercury switches mounted to the circuit board and oriented so as to be responsive to declination of that portion of the patient's body to which the detector is attached and which declination is indicative of impending ambulation, but non-responsive to positions in which the posture of the patient is not indicative of impending ambulation. The detachment detector switch is a spring contact switch which is openable and closable by a plunger acting thereon and sensitive to detachment of the detector from the patient's body. The detector may be wired to a conventional switched nurse call system.
