  • Patent number: 4569460
Abstract: The present invention is a high integrity storage container which is particularly well adapted for storage of chemical, radio-nucleide, or other types of waste materials. The body portion will typically be of right rectangular configuration having an open top. An inwardly oriented flange is located completely around the upper periphery of the container body where it acts with a corresponding mating surface on a lid to provide sealing surfaces. A key element is a novel folded gasket located between the mating surfaces of the body and lid. This is oriented with the fold portion toward the outer periphery of the container where it has minimum exposure to the contents. Preferably, the lips or edges of the gasket are bonded to the lid and body flange by a pressure sensitive adhesive to form a tight seal. A resilient strip is located within the folded area of the gasket to urge the adhesive coated surfaces into intimate contact with the mating surfaces of the lid and body flange.

  • Patent number: 4541212
Abstract: This invention is an adjustable frame member or jamb for a wall opening and a method for making it. It consists of two side-by-side jamb members, a spring and a stop. The stop is attached to one jamb member in an overhanging or step-like relationship. The spring is inserted into the back of this member so that an elongated portion defines a slot with the overhanging portion of the stop. Narrow kerfs are appropriately let into the back of the jamb and the door stop for anchoring the arm portions of the spring. The second jamb member is slid into the slot defined by the stop and spring, where it is firmly gripped by the spring. By forming one mounting point for the spring in the back of the stop, a short lever arm is maintained to better resist any prying or dislodging forces applied against the spring caused by the other jamb member. The artical can conveniently be made by first attaching one edge of the stop to a jamb of the narrowest width expected in use.

  • Patent number: 4517842
Abstract: A fluid pressure transducer of the null balance type in which a fluid whose pressure is being sensed acts against one face of a diaphragm and a balancing control fluid acts against the opposite face. Control fluid pressure is uniformly distributed against the control face of the diaphragm by a porous element, preferably made of a sintered material. Movement or displacement of the diaphragm opens a sensing element and may be controlled by use of a similar pressure distributing porous element placed on the sensing side. The volume defined between the two porous elements limits maximum diaphragm travel and displacement. Transducers made according to the invention have high sensitivity. The transducers are particularly well adapted for measurement of pore pressure in earth fills or natural geological environments.

  • Patent number: 4475888
Abstract: A pair of arcuate concavo-convex trays formed of a plastic foam material shaped to be inserted into the mouth and to encase both the upper and lower jaws. The trays are normally disposed in mirror-like opposition and joined anterior-to-anterior by a bridge member adapted to bow, bend or fold so that the exterior surfaces of the trays are juxtaposed bottom to bottom. The trays are used to receive and contain a medicament for topical application to a person's teeth, fluoride gel being a typical topical material.

  • Patent number: 4461948
Abstract: The invention is an improved collet design for arc welding torches. The collet tip is asymmetrically tapered. The collet tip bears on the interior surface of an adjacent sleeve which is appropriately flared in the rearward direction so as to receive the tapered collet tip. The sleeve also has an opening through which the electrode passes. The asymmetry of the collet-sleeve interaction causes the collet to be laterally displaced thereby gripping the electrode between the collet and the sleeve opening. The improved collet also includes a spring fastener means for connecting the rear end of the collet to the back cap of the torch head.

  • Patent number: 4443683
Abstract: A gas consuming electric welding torch has a swiveling torch head which is angularly oriented with respect to the torch handle. Inert gas and electrical current flow through a conductive passageway into a swivel body. A swivel fastener extends through the swivel body and is fastened to threads in a piece extending radially from the torch head. Insert gas may flow through the swivel fastener and into the torch head.

  • Patent number: 4333396
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for a two-stage crushing of empty cans along their longitudinal axes to collapse them to minimum bulk. The apparatus has a stanchion fixed to a base and long and short lever arms pivotally mounted on the stanchion. A pivotal linkage interconnects the long lever arm with the short lever arm. First and second crush heads are pivotally mounted between the base and the long and short lever arms with a pantograph type linkage to control the attitude of the crush heads. In the first stage of crushing, the can is placed between the first of the crush heads and the base, and the long lever arm is moved toward the base to partially crush the can axially. In the second stage, the partially collapsed can is placed between the base and the second crush head. The long lever arm is moved toward the base thereby moving the short lever arm toward the base and the can is thereby completely axially crushed.

  • Patent number: 4228631
Abstract: A wooden structural member or joist having a continuous tension chord and a continuous compression chord which are spaced apart and parallel. The tension chord and compression chord form the effective top and bottom of the joist, the actual orientation depending on the type of load imposed upon the joist. Dentations or dentated panels connect the side edges of the tension chord to the side edges of the compression chord, thus forming the two sides of the joist which has a hollow rectangular cross sectional shape. The dentations are planar with two parallel edges and two non-parallel edges tapering together forming a broad end and a narrow end. The face of the broad end is glued to the side edge of the compression chord, and the face of the narrow end is glued to the side edge of the tension chord. The sides of the joist are discontinuous because of the dentated shape. The dentations are coordinately spaced to allow pipes, conduits, ducts and other equipment to pass transversely through the joist.
