  • Patent number: 5230769
Abstract: A process is provided for the separation of substances by melt crystallization. The organic mixtures which are difficult to crystallize are heated to a temperature sufficient to obtain a melt with the melt then being moved through a three-dimensional crystallization matrix having a large specific area. The melt is slowly cooled over a temperature range so as to achieve a selective crystallization from the supersaturated melt in the carrier matrix. A deposited crystal phase is thereafter melted and separated from the carrier matrix and removed by centrifugation. The carrier matrix may have a crystallization-promoting microstructure surface and may consist of an openpored foam.

  • Patent number: 5227776
Abstract: A combined alarm, security and rescue system includes room boxes (33a-33j, 35a-35j) in associated rooms, a two way communication system (29a-29C, 30a-30C, 31a-31b, 32a-32j, 34a-34j) between a number of room boxes and a central operator station, and a central operator station. The system can be used in hotels, hospitals, cruise vessels, offshore living quarter platforms, and other places where many people usually are gathered within a definite area. In case of an emergency situation, the system provides essential information at the operator station for rescue crew, and thus acts as a decision tool for the rescue leader. The system also provides personal safety equipment like breathing masks (contained in the room boxes), that can be used by the people in the rooms in order to break through areas filled with smoke. Further, necessary equipment for a person-to-person communication between the central operator and the people present in the actual rooms is provided.

  • Patent number: 5220778
Abstract: A method for the production of untwisted yarns from at least two fibril bundles. Intermediate method steps, which are introduced between the main steps of the conventional production method for such yarns (Spinning, stretching and texturing), allows the receiprocal position of the individual fibril bundles resulting from the arrangement of the spinnerets to be retained through the process. A non-positively acting false twister for each individual fibril bundle, whose strength or thickness can be varied, also makes it possible to reproducibly vary the mixing of the fibrils of the individual bundles in their contact zones.

  • Patent number: 5211634
Abstract: The composite seal is formed of a slit elastomeric septum and a sealing member which serves to seal against a blunt ended cannula passing through the slit septum. The composite seal may be made of one piece construction or of two piece construction. The sealing member may be formed of a separate rubber disc to frictionally grip a cannula in place. Alternatively, the sealing member may be formed by a plastic housing in which the slit septum is mounted. In this latter case, the plastic housing has a reduced bore for gripping of the cannula. No exterior mechanical locking elements are required to secure a cannula to the composite seal structure.

  • Patent number: 5211545
Abstract: Arrangement for feeding water into a reservoir located at a level above that of the ocean by utilising energy produced by the movement of waves thereof. An air cushion-forming portion of a first chamber communicates with an air cushion-forming portion of a second chamber. Water is supplied to the second chamber via an intake pipe and associated back pressure valves plus adjacent rising pipe. As a result of equivalent pressure variations in the first and second air cushion-forming portions caused by movement of the waves, water is lifted from the second chamber in a pipe via additional back pressure valves along with a further rising pipe plus pump to a higher lying, third chamber and from there to the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 5203684
Abstract: The compressor or similar machine has a first housing component which cooperates with two end members to form a first hollow space as well as a second housing component which cooperates with two end members to form a second hollow space. In addition, a one-piece rocking piston member extends through the two housing components. The piston member carries radially directed wings at one end which are received in the first hollow space while a cylindrical portion is received in the second hollow space for coupling with a crank arm mechanism. The hollow spaces are sealed off relative to each other by a sealing ring which is arranged on the piston member. The piston member is secured in place by a cover member which is bolted to one end member associated with the second housing component. Similar bolt secure the end members associated with the second housing component together.

  • Patent number: 5197163
Abstract: The nipper unit comprises a lower nipper as well as a an upper nipper and an auxiliary nipper, the latter two each being movable with respect to the lower nipper between a closed position and an open position. The auxiliary nipper is spring-loaded against its closed position. If the upper nipper is in its opened position, the auxiliary nipper is in its closed position and is used to tightly clamp a lap on a lower nipper plate while a previously combed fiber tuft is detached therefrom. When the upper nipper moves to its closed position, stop elements arranged on the upper nipper come into contact with stop surfaces arranged on the auxiliary nipper and open the auxiliary nipper so that the lap on the lower nipper plate can be advanced. The timing of the opening of the auxiliary nipper is determined by the position of the stop elements on the upper nipper.

  • Patent number: 5194309
Abstract: A flat web-shaped blank is formed with a pair of parallel recesses, each of which defines an angle of less than 90.degree. to permit the faces of the recess to press against each other when the side sections of the blank are pivoted into a U-shape. The pressing of the lateral faces of the recess against each other serves to bias the side sections away from each other. The flat blank can be wound in a coil for storage and transportation purposes. The blank can be readily shaped into a U-shaped guide rail and inserted into the groove of an associated window frame portion. Shoulders on the outside of the side sections of the blank can snap fit into grooves in the walls of the groove of the window frame portion.
