  • Patent number: 6152564
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a device for measuring horizontal and vertical eye movement utilizing infrared technology. The device rests on the user's nose and, in alternate versions, can be secured to the user's head via a head strap or temple arms which will provide greater alignment and applications. It is comprised of a nose bridge piece and mounting means which house the calculation and measurement technology. The nose bridge is similar to that of ordinary eye glasses with the mounting means, or head strap, or temple arms attached thereto. The mounting means consist of a lightweight horizontal component which extends from the nose bridge and underneath the eyes. This component is located below the horizontal center of the eye and rests above the cheek area of the user's face. Illuminators, which are oriented approximately linear to the horizontal axis of the eye on the component, radiate light into the lower portion of the eye.

  • Patent number: 6120232
Abstract: A forklift having a frame supported by front and rear wheels is mounted on a carrier by inserting its forks into pockets mounted on the frame of the carrier vehicle and lifting the wheels of the forklift off the ground. A pair of wheel abutments on the underside of the carrier serve as abutments for the front wheels of the forklift to prevent its forward movement. A combined lock and support structure connected to the frame of the carrier prevents separation of the forklift from the carrier after the hydraulic system of the forklift is neutralized and all pressure on the forks, carriage, and mast are relieved of support forces.

  • Patent number: 6113237
Abstract: The presently disclosed invention is a device for measuring horizontal and vertical eye movement. The device is adaptable to utilize multiple measurement technologies (e.g., direct infrared, electro-oculography, ultrasound, or video), and is capable of measuring each eye individually or both eyes jointly. The present invention overcomes the shortcomings of the prior art by requiring minimal adjustment for accurate measurement, only minimally obstructing the user's visual range (i.e., slightly more than the user's own nose), being made of low cost and readily available material, and by being comprised of a comfortable and efficient design of an adjustable nose and forehead piece with an adjustable head strap. An additional advancement over the prior art is that the presently disclosed device does not require an aperture or frame, as did the prior art, or any additional optics such as, lenses, mirrors, or prisms.

  • Patent number: 6110564
Abstract: A humidifier pad with multiple layers of slit and expanded paper laminated together. At least one, and in some preferred embodiments, up to half of the paper layers comprise substantially nonwicking paper and the remaining layers comprise highly absorbent wicking paper. Wick type humidifier pads are particularly useful in humidifiers wherein the lower portion of the pad is submerged in a reservoir of water. The upper portion of the pad, exposed to a flow of air to be humidified, is supplied with water due to the high rate of capillary rise featured by the wicking paper layers. Including non-wicking layers wetted by the wicking layers provide an output capacity comparable to conventionally constructed pads which include all wicking paper layers and an attendant saving of the cost of materials.

  • Patent number: 6105855
Abstract: A releasable locking lid formed from a planar blank of paperboard material which is adapted to fit a locking style box and which can be formed using automated paperboard folding equipment. Fold lines are provided in selected locations in the paperboard blank to define a top wall and two pair of opposing side walls surrounding the top wall. Each of one pair of side walls are configured to form a double ply in the final form and include a pair of cut-out portions which form recesses on the inner side of the double ply side wall which mate with corresponding flaps provided on the box to releasably lock the lid on the box. The double ply side walls also include a flap portion on each end adapted to mate with a diagonally folded flap on the ends of the other pair of opposing side walls. These flaps are adhesively bound together to connect the side walls to one another.

  • Patent number: 5963033
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting a loss in cross-sectional area of metallic reinforcing members having magnetic properties of a conductor indicating corrosion effects on the conductor. The method comprises providing a motive force to move a data collection component and a detector component along a length of conductor. The detector includes a rotating magnetic source spaced apart from an electronic coil winding. In use, a conductor is interpositioned between the magnetic source and electronic coil winding. The amount of magnetic field passing through the conductor induces a voltage in the coil inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area of the steel reinforcing strands of a conductor. The described apparatus can be used to determine the rate of loss of cross-sectional area for a conductor over a period of in use by measuring the cross-sectional areas of the metallic reinforcing members over an adequate time interval.

  • Patent number: 5939681
Abstract: A container-filling-and-weighing device having a frame and a connected weighing member. A first single point load cell is connected near the top of the weighing member and attaches to the frame. A second single point load cell extends from near the bottom of the weighing member and attaches to the frame. The load cells are preferably parallel, essentially identical and intersected by a vertical line. Any nonvertical force applied to the upper load cell is offset numerically by an equal and opposite nonvertical force applied to the lower load cell. These disparities are removed by averaging the numerical output from each load cell.
