  • Patent number: 5768839
Abstract: A fire damper is provided with a central flange for mounting within a wall. The flange having a plurality of holes allowing any plaster material in the wall construction to pass through the holes and retain the damper. A miter cut is provided at the corners of the damper and the flange to allow for expansion during a fire. The damper is positioned within an opening in the wall with the flange positioned within the opening of the wall. The wall is built up by applying mortar against the damper and extending flange. With the mortar being forced through the holes in the flange to hold the damper in place.

  • Patent number: 5673496
Abstract: The dry charge machine and method disclosed carefully monitor the temperature above and below the plates as well as the water temperature exiting the machine and introduce cooling water at a flow rate and temperature so as to maximize thermal efficiency in drying and minimize the energy necessary to raise the temperature of the drying gas. The machinery is arranged and controlled so that water droplets are not introduced into the air. Oxygen leakage into the machine in minimized and the oxygen content of the air is monitored.

  • Patent number: 5184655
Abstract: A message display boot is provided for a fuel dispensing nozzle. The display boot comprises a flexible plastic boot in close conforming fit over at least the front valve housing of the nozzle. At the top of the boot is a message platform upon which a message placard can be rested. A skirted flexible cover conforming to the contour of the platform has a pattern of scalloped expansion folds, such that the cover is held on the platform by the close conforming fit of the skirt along and under the sides of the platform but can be easily pried off the platform to change the placard. The cover can be optically clear to hold a message placard on the platoform, or it may have a message imprinted on its top surface. A bellows portion at the bottom of the boot provides a conforming fit over nozzles of various height. In a preferred embodiment, the boot, platform and bumper are integrally molded of plastisol vinyl.

  • Patent number: 5146932
Abstract: A bladder-less counterpressure garment primarily used in the treatment of a victim suffering from hypovolemic shock. The garment is made of a resilient material, like elastic, with a means for stretching the material to or near its stretch limit. This stretching supplies the requisite counterpressure to increase blood circulation to the vital organs.

  • Patent number: 5140820
Abstract: A carburetion and combustion system is provided in which the carburetor discharges a combustible fuel/air mixture in a rotating swirl from a plurality of nozzles at one end of a cylindrical combustion chamber, and discharges a rotating helical swirl of high-velocity compressor air concentrically surrounding the combustion mixture from a second set of nozzles. The high-velocity air swirl confines the flame propagation away from the combustible chamber walls and provides the walls with an insulating layer against the combustion heat.

  • Patent number: 5140744
Abstract: A multicell storage battery may be assembled to fit various floor space and height requirements by using standardized multicell modules having keyed connector means such that the modules can be connected only in selected orientations which facilitate the electrical connection of terminals. These standardized modules eliminate the need for standard and reverse polarity modules which existed in the prior art, and simplify battery assembly on site while allowing greater flexibility to adjust to space limitations. The keyed connectors comprise mating structures on the sides of the rectangular frame of the modules, which in combination with the modules being configured to stand vertically, create cooling ducts for the cells. An easily installed safety shield encloses the terminals of the cells and provides a front cooling duct.

  • Patent number: 5137681
Abstract: An electrical generating system in which exhaust steam from the turbine is recycled through the turbine to reduce feedwater requirements and condenser complexity. The turbine is an axial flow dual shaft compressor/turbine unit in which a coaxial shaft couples the turbine section to the compressor section. A portion of the energy extracted from the steam is used to power the generator and the remainer is used to power the compressor. The turbine exhaust steam is directed through compressor section and the compressed steam is then mixed with turbine inlet steam by a steam jet ejector. The compressor may be powered from either one or both shafts from the turbine.
