    Abstract: A calorimetric sensor system requires a vehicle's internal combustion engine to cyclically operate between first and second conditions to repeatedly produce a varying exhaust gas composition which is consistent from cycle to cycle. The rate of change of the calorimetric sensor's signal as the engine cycles from one to the other condition is mathematically factored, after signal filtering at frequencies of the induced perturbation, to provide signals indicative of the emissions concentration in the exhaust gases, the air/fuel ratio of the engine and whether the engine is operating lean or rich. The signals can be used as fuel control engine signals as well as OBD signals. Additionally, the system can control industrial processes through small process perturbations affecting the compositions of process gases.

    Abstract: A cordless cellular or pleated window shade having a head rail, a bottom rail and a pleated shade fabric therebetween uses a conventional spring tensioned roller shade bar for raising and lowering the shade without draw cords. A lead screw permanently affixed to an end cap of the head rail threadingly engages one end of the roller shade bar while the opposite end of the roller shade bar has a movable support locking the spring tensioner of the roller shade bar to the support to permit movement of the roller shade bar within the head rail. Lift cords wrap and unwrap themselves about the roller shade bar so that lowering of the shade tensions the spring which spring tension is then used to raise the pleated or cellular shade. The pitch of the lead screw forces the lift cords to wrap themselves about the shade roller bar in a singular, non-overlying manner while the roller shade bar moves within the head rail thereby assuring consistent alignment of the bottom rail with the head rail at any shade position.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus converts time-resolved sensor signals into transfer functions and/or cumulative transfer function signals which can be attained by computation means such as by using Fast Fourier Transforms. A signal, as a means to assess catalyst performance such as a signal based on sensing oxygen concentration or air to fuel ratio or hydrocarbon concentration in motor vehicle exhaust in accordance with the present invention is in the time domain and has multiple components at different frequencies. The use of Fast Fourier Transforms isolates the various spectral densities which arise from different frequency components of the complex time domain signal. Cross spectral density function and power spectral density function are used to determine the transfer function. The analysis has been found to be substantially independent of operating conditions. The transfer function and cumulative transfer function have been found to be a precise indication of the catalyst performance.

The accumulator is plumbed into the hydraulic system by one way check valves which isolate the accumulator from the high pressure pump to permit the high pressure pump and the priming system to be located at any convenient position within the vehicle's engine compartment irrespective of their position relative to the manifold/rail passages.

Additionally, the filter is fitted with a protruding baffle shielding the camera from stray 511 Kev radiation.

Each tape has periodically spaced, alignment openings along its length which engage circumferentially spaced, spokes protruding from the roller shade bar to precisely wind the tape about the roller shade bar as the shade is raised or lowered and thus maintain the bottom rail in parallel relationship with the low profile, head rail.

    Abstract: An improved convector plate is provided for a batch coil annealing furnace. The plate includes a top annular plate, an identical bottom annular plate and an annular diverter plate in between. A plurality of slotted openings are provided in the top and bottom plates which extend radially outwardly from a first imaginary circle spaced from the inner peripheral edge of the top and bottom plates to an imaginary second circle spaced inwardly from the top and bottom plate's outer peripheral edge. The annular diverter plate is radially centered within the slotted openings. When the convector plate is placed between the edges of two coils, furnace atmosphere flows into the convector plate in the space between the top and bottom plates and is directed by the diverter plate into the slotted openings which are now covered by the coil edges thus establishing improved convective heat transfer rates with the coil edges resulting in shorter annealing process times.

    Abstract: An automatic calibration system corrects for photomultiplier drift while the gamma camera is in imaging mode. The known constant energy from the gamma rays producing scintillated light is used to effect the drift adjustment by weighting the position signals of the scintillations to determine if a valid event has occurred and building, for each photomultiplier in the camera, a statistically valid, spectral energy histogram. When the histogram counts reach a sufficient sample size the histogram data is read out in a discriminatory manner to account for noise and Compton scattering effects and used to either directly adjust the photomultiplier gain or the calibration look up tables depending on what type of system is used by the camera to process the photomultiplier signals.

    Abstract: A strip floater, heat treat furnace is provided with a plenum housing defining a plenum chamber which is positioned within a refractory lined furnace enclosure. The plenum chamber contains i) a fan housing holding a recirculation fan, ii) a header and pressure pad arrangement for heating and floating strip passing through the furnace, and iii) a recirculation duct for collecting and refreshing spent furnace atmosphere. The entire furnace atmosphere circulation loop from the fan housing through the header and pressure pads and back to the fan housing from the return duct after strip impingement is thus closed and sealed thereby preventing refractory fibre and foreign matter entrainment in the gas streams impinging the strip while improving the temperature control of the furnace atmosphere and strip.

    Abstract: A drying system is disclosed for drying wet gases, typically produced by a gas generator to dew points less than 32.degree. F. The system uses a refrigeration cycle having a single compressor to dry the wet gas in a first evaporator while simultaneously defrosting the ice buildup on a second evaporator. The cycle then switches from the first evaporator to the second evaporator after the second evaporator is defrosted. The switching is preceded by a changeover phase in which cooled refrigerant is pulsed to the defrosted evaporator and both evaporators go on line for a short time before the system phase change occurs thus assuring control of the dried gas temperature while avoiding shock to the refrigeration system.

The plenum plate has a central underpressure opening and a fan between the rearward end of the furnace and the plate develops a wind mass which circulates into the furnace chamber and is drawn back into the fan through the plates central underpressure opening. Between the plenum plate and the furnace rearward end is positioned a first fixed fan diffuser followed by a second fixed fan diffuser. The first fan diffuser permits wind mass flow therethrough when the fan is rotated in a first direction but not in a second direction and similarly the second fan diffuser permits wind mass flow therethrough when the fan is rotated in a second direction but not in a first direction.

A specific dynode in the photomultiplier is isolated from the line resistive voltage divider string in the photomultiplier which places each dynode under incremental voltages. A voltage is then applied to the isolated dynode which can vary anywhere from the voltage the isolated dynode would have had if inserted in the voltage divider string to the voltage that the immediately preceding or immediately succeeding dynode in the string has whereby the photomultiplier's gain is controlled. The applied voltage to the isolated dynode is developed electronically by a voltage to frequency converter coupled by an opto-isolator to a gain voltage divider circuit which cycles the applied voltage between two different voltage potentials tapped from the voltage divider string.
