Patent number: 4592077Abstract: The clock signal required for demodulation of a received NRZ digital data stream is generated by detecting each transition across a reference axis made by the received NRZ digital data stream. This transition data is then utilized to change the voltage applied to a voltage controlled oscillator. The change in the voltage applied to the voltage controlled oscillator causes the frequency of the output from the voltage controlled oscillator to change. The change in the frequency of the output of the voltage controlled oscillator adjusts the period of the clock signal until the clock signal is synchronized with the transition data at which time it may be used to demodulate the recieved NRZ digital data.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1983Date of Patent: May 27, 1986Assignee: Phillips Petroleum CompanyInventor: Jerry J. Norton

Patent number: 4587314Abstract: In a reactor for continuous polymerization in which an olefinic monomer is polymerized by contacting the olefinic monomer under suitable reaction conditions with an initiator, the formation of residue in the reactor is reduced by introducing the olefinic monomer and initiator into opposite sides of a turbulent zone produced by an agitator in the reactor. This improves mixing of the olefinic monomer and the initiator and prevents the initiator from contacting high concentrations of the olefinic monomer which results in reduced residue formation in the reactor.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1984Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Assignee: Phillips Petroleum CompanyInventor: Mason S. Patent number: 4585644Abstract: A steam line is connected to the oil lines supplying feed to a carbon black reactor and valves are provided in each of the steam and oil lines so that either or both steam and oil can be fed to the oil tube emitting feed into the reactor. To change an oil nozzle without interrupting production, oil flow to a single nozzle is cut off and steam flow is provided while the nozzle is removed from the reactor. Steam flow is again provided as the replacement nozzle is inserted into the reactor and when it is in place, steam is cut off and oil flow resumed.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1984Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: Phillips Petroleum CompanyInventors: Richard T. Patent number: 4585700Abstract: A composition is provided containing a poly(arylene sulfide) and a hydrotalcite. The composition can further contain glass fibers and is suitable as a molding composition. The hydrotalcite-containing poly(arylene sulfide) provides a molding composition which offers the combination of mold corrosion inhibition, hydrolytic stability and insulation resistance compared with prior molding compositions. Also provided is an article of manufacture comprising a hydrotalcite-containing poly(arylene sulfide) molded part in contact with a liquid electrolyte. The use of hydrotalcite-containing resin reduces the effect of corrosive ionic species extractable from the poly(arylene sulfide) by the electrolyte. Such an article of manufacture would include, for example, a capacitor having a liquid electrolyte and a poly(arylene sulfide) cover.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1985Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: Phillips Petroleum CompanyInventors: Timothy W. Patent number: 4583497Abstract: Boiler optimization is included in on-line control of parallel boilers by multiplying the total heat per unit time which must be supplied to all parallel boilers by the percentage of the total heat which should be supplied to each boiler in order to substantially maximize energy efficiency. The result of such multiplication is the heat per unit time which should be supplied to each boiler. The fuel and air supplied to each boiler is controlled so as to supply the thus determined heat per unit time which not only results in maintenance of a desired header pressure but also results in substantially maximizing energy efficiency of the parallel boilers.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1984Date of Patent: April 22, 1986Assignee: Phillips Petroleum CompanyInventors: Merle R.
