Abstract: For direct and on-line study of the physiological states of cell cultures, a robust flow injection system has been designed and interfaced with flow cytometry (FI-FCM). The core of the flow injection system includes a microchamber designed for sample processing. The design of the microchamber allows not only an accurate on-line dilution but also on-line cell fixation, staining, and washing. The flow injection part of the system was tested by monitoring the optical density of a growing E.coli culture on-line using a spectrophotometer. The entire growth curve, from lag phase to stationary phase, was obtained with frequent sampling. The system is thus particularly useful since it operates automatically without direct operator supervision for extended time periods.

Abstract: A lightweight, partially evacuated load-supporting insulation panel comprising an outer gas-impermeable envelope and an inner gas-permeable envelope. The inner envelope is filled with a mixture of coarse gas-permeable granules and fine gas permeable particles, void spaces formed within and between said granules and particles containing a gas of low thermal conductivity. An intermediate gas impermeable envelope may also be used.

Abstract: A cuff measuring device for tailors, including a thumb cap, an elongated portion and a slide, the thumb cap sized to receive the tip of a person's thumb, the elongated portion including indicia for measuring and being joined to the thumb cap and the slide providing a cuff rest and a chalk carriage, the slide being slidably mounted to the elongated portion to adjust the cuff rest against a garment cuff, the chalk carriage, including chalk providing a sliding mechanism for marking the garment for folding or cutting.

Abstract: A personal protection apparatus, including uniquely constructed barrier members that may be placed over the hands of the user and then be used for providing medical treatment including application of pressure or for accomplishing the cleanup, and for the cleanup, containment and disposal of infectious and hazardous materials, said personal protection apparatus of the invention being useful in effectively treating trauma victims while at the same time protecting the caregiver from infectious disease, bacteria, micro-organism, viruses, spores and other hazardous contaminants, said apparatus of the invention also being effectively used to safely apply various medicaments, pharmaceutical and other agents to burns, wounds and abrasions and to provide localized cooling to selected areas of a patient's body, said apparatus of the present invention being adapted to remain with the patient thereby substantially limiting the spread of contamination.
