Abstract: A video recording apparatus for continuously presenting a main program to a user without a break while presenting a commercial. A main program buffer records a main program of a video signal in accordance with a temporal position of at least the main program or commercials in the video signal, and a commercial buffer records the commercials. A controller determines whether a current time is in a period to display a commercial, on the basis of at least the temporal position of the main program or the commercials in the video signal. A mixer mixes the main program and the commercials such that the main program is temporally continuously displayed in a full screen area and such that a commercial is displayed in a small area in the bottom right corner of the screen during a period in which the commercial should be displayed.

Abstract: The present invention is to provide a safe antidiarrheal agent and a method for suppressing diarrhea by which an efficient antidiarrheal effect is achieved without using antibiotics or synthetic antibacterial agents that have been conventionally used against infections in livestock and poultry. Antibiotic-resistant pathogenic infections can also be prevented and treated by the present invention. The antidiarrheal agent for livestock and poultry comprising heat-killed bacteria of Enterococcus faecalis EC-12 (FERM ABP-10284) or a treated product thereof as an active ingredient is orally administered to livestock and poultry, particularly to breast-feeding sows and piglets around the weaning period.

Abstract: A method of increasing the relative number of cells expressing one or more stem cell markers in a cell population including committed cells is described. The method comprises: i. contacting the cell population with an agent that operably engages said committed cells; and ii. incubating committed cells that are engaged by said agent such that the relative number of cells expressing one or more stem cell markers increases as a result of said engaging.

A decoded output of a decoder 17 (PCM data) is multiplied in a gain adjustment unit 18 with a gain coefficient k2, as the SE sound volume level as set by a user. A multiplication output of the gain adjustment unit 18 is sent to an adder 13. The decoded output of a decoder 20 is multiplied in a gain adjustment unit 21 with a gain coefficient k3, as the BGM sound volume level, as set by the user. A multiplication output of the gain adjustment unit 21 is sent to an adder 13. The adder 13 sums the multiplication outputs of the gain adjustment units 12, 18 and 21 and sends a sum output to an encoder 22.

Abstract: A soft windowing technique involves the use of a window for vector assisted frame differing, the window being larger than a macroblock of the structure defined over the video picture. The edges of each window taper so that overlapping windows provide the correct pixel weighting at the edges. For a scheme having 16*16 luminance macroblocks and 8*8 chrominance macroblocks, the luminance window is 24*24 and the chrominance window is 12*12.

Abstract: A picture-display-region discriminating apparatus comprising a device for setting a number of picture detection regions on a display screen of a television receiver, a detecting device for detecting a level of a video signal corresponding to each picture detection region by utilizing two reference levels, and a device for determining whether or not a picture exists in each picture detection region based on detection results from the detecting device. One of the reference levels utilized by the detecting device is a black level of a luminance signal of the video signal and the other reference level utilized therewith is a white level of the luminance signal of the video signal.

Abstract: The live recombinant avian vaccine comprises, as vector, an avian herpesvirus comprising at least one nucleotide sequence coding for and expressing an antigenic polypeptide of an avian pathogenic agent, inserted into the region lying between the ATG of ORF UL55 and the junction of U.sub.L with the adjacent repeat region, under the control of the CMV immediate early promoter. The vector is preferably chosen from the group consisting of Marek's disease viruses (MDV and HVT), infectious laryngotracheitis virus ILTV and herpes of ducks. A polyvalent vaccine formula comprises at least two vaccines of this type, with different inserted sequences.
