  • Patent number: 7521434
Abstract: The present invention provides for compositions of hyaluronic acid cross-linked with at least one other hydrophobic polymer to form a copolymer gel. The preferred composition is a formulation containing hyaluronic acid or its derivatives and a silicone base polymer with a functional group capable of reacting with the preferred cross-linker. The silicon may also be a group capable of undergoing further polymerization, or a silicone moiety adding to the hydrophobic nature of the gel. The product can be used alone or contain various other substances or covalently bound substances for numerous useful applications including cosmetic, medical, and drug delivery applications. The present invention also provides processes for preparing them.

  • Patent number: 7497097
Abstract: A spacer-fabric sweatband, for, and incorporated into headwear which has an inner, skin-contact fabric layer, and an outer, headwear-facing fabric layer connected by a multiplicity of hydrophobic monofilament-pile spacing elements. The pile spacing elements function like thousands of miniature springs to maintain the fabric layers in uniform spaced parallel relation while creating substantial, pile-supported airspace between the fabric layers to facilitate the movement of ventilating airflow. The headwear-facing fabric layer is mesh-like for enhanced air circulation. The skin-contact layer is composed of solid skin-friendly fabric. The pile segments block sweat from migrating from the inner to the outer fabric layers by virtue of their hydrophobic composition.

  • Patent number: 7462710
Abstract: The present invention provides a water-soluble modified gum arabic with a weight average molecular weight not less than 0.9 million and arabinogalactan protein not less than 17% by weight obtained by heating Acacia Senegal gum arabic and modified water-soluble gum arabic with a weight average molecular weight not less than 2.5 million and with protein containing high molecular weight components of not less than 25% by weight. Moreover, the present invention provides modified gum arabic with standardized and predictable molecular properties and methods for providing the modified gum arabic endowed with high emulsification efficiency and stability and for uniforming natural variations in unmodified gum arabic. The present invention changes the natural protein distribution of gum arabic, and increases AGP content.

  • Patent number: 6841644
Abstract: Disclosed are modified naturally occurring biocompatible biopolymers of plant and animal origin made by subjecting same to ionizing radiation in the presence of a mediating gas, typically acetylene to enable one to selectively enhance and modify one or more of the physiochemical properties of the starting materials which have a wide range of uses in medicine, food technology and other industrial applications. Notwithstanding the modifications, the biocompatibility of the biopolymer remains unchanged and no new or additional functional groups are introduced into the starting biopolymer.

  • Patent number: 6571049
Abstract: Described is an optical waveguide for an optical lighting arrangement comprising a freely rotatable tube (6) arranged at the light exit end of the optical waveguide (2). The optical waveguide (2) is characterized in that the tube (6) comprises a non-magnetic material, wherein the optical waveguide (2) has a hand switch for controlling the radiation flux of the optical lighting arrangement, which is formed by a magnetically activatable switch (27) which is disposed between the optical waveguide (2) and the tube (6) and which is fixed on the outer peripheral surface of the optical waveguide (2) and spaced from the inside surface of the tube (6), and an annular magnet (26) which is disposed on the tube (6) and which bears snugly against the tube (6) and is displaceable axially thereon. Two thin wires or stranded conductors (41, 42) extend from the magnetically activatable switch (27) and extend in the interior of the optical waveguide (2) but outside the liquid thereof to the light entry end.
