  • Patent number: 7385803
Abstract: This invention is based on the preparation of new solid acid triphosphates with compositions of the general formula M(IV)(HPO4)(H2PO4)2, where M(IV) is a tetravalent metal or a mixture of tetravalent metals. These compounds are insoluble in water the greater part of most organic solvents. They show a high non-water assisted protonic conductivity (about 0.01-0.04 S/cm at 100° C. and a relative humidity lower than 1%). These compounds can be used as proton conduction separators in electrochemical devices, to operate at low relative humidity values, as for example in different fuel cells, protonic pumps for electrochemical hydrogenation and dehydrogenation of organic compounds, or for hydrogen production from hydrogenated organic compounds by electro-reforming, or also for removing hydrogen from equilibrium reactions. These compounds can also be used in electrochemical sensors, in super capacitors and as acid catalysts in non-aqueous or anhydrous gaseous phases.

  • Patent number: 7087060
Abstract: This invention relates to novel methods, kits, and devices for stopping hemorrhaging of percutaneous wounds. The inventive subject matter involves insertion of a purse-string suture around the wound, insertion of the free two ends of the suture through a tension collar, manual tightening of the tension collar until hemostasis is achieved, and application of a suture lock to the free ends of the suture to secure the tension collar and maintain hemostasis. After a sufficient period of time to allow complete hemostasis, the suture lock and the tension collar are loosened; if hemostasis has been achieved, the suture lock, the tension collar, and the suture material are removed. If bleeding continues from the wound, the tension collar is tightened and the suture lock reapplied. This process may be repeated until complete hemostasis is achieved, without the need for additional suturing or manual compression.

  • Patent number: 6897639
Abstract: A two-wire sensor (6) is attached to one pole of a voltage distribution source (U) by an initial connecting line (V1) in which a current-limiting resistor (R1) is positioned and is attached to the other pole by a second connecting line (V2). Parallel to the series connection consisting of the two-wire sensor (S) and the current-limiting resistor (R1) is at least one limiting diode (D1). A current regulator (SR) which is attached to the poles of the power source (U) regulates a parallel current (I) which runs parallel to the current through the two-wire sensor (D), so that there is a sum current at the poles of the power source (U) that always corresponds to the measured value delivered by the two-wire sensor (S). The regulating inputs of the current regulator (SR) are connected to the terminals of a current-sensing resistor (R2) positioned in a connecting line (V1). When a HART®-interface is used with the two-wire sensor (S) a HART®-resistor (RH) is positioned in one of the two connecting lines (V1).
