  • Patent number: 6660022
Abstract: An insertion tool for a rotor blade anchor. The anchor is pivotably coupled to a handle so that the anchor can assume a first position in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the handle. The tool is designed to be rotated about the longitudinal axis so that the anchor, when placed in a bore hole in biological tissue, can attain a second position substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The anchor itself includes a cutting surface thereon. A deploy spring is disposed on the handle and biases the anchor toward the second position. In use, when the rotor blade is inserted into an object such as a bone, the object moves the anchor toward alignment with the longitudinal axis. When the anchor is inserted far enough into the object, a user rotates the handle and the anchor. The deploy spring biases the cutting surface so that is engages with the sidewall of the borehole. The rotation of the handle causes the cutting surface to cut into the object.

  • Patent number: 5388707
Abstract: Apparatus and method are provided for inspecting finish dimensions of and detecting finish defects on containers moving sequentially in a predetermined path. More than one container can be inspected simultaneously. The apparatus includes one or more inspection gauges suspended above the container path. A transport system is provided for aiding in moving containers through the gauges and simultaneously axially rotating the containers about a vertical axis. Rotation of the containers allows the inspection gauges to inspect the entire circumference of the containers at one or more levels on the container simultaneously. Defective containers are detected when the relative separation distance between the gauge plates of the inspection gauge falls outside predetermined limits. If a defective container is detected, a rejection assembly may be activated to physically remove the defective container from the container path.

  • Patent number: 5388470
Abstract: The centrifugal force drive machine for generating force in a controlled direction is provided. The machine includes a machine frame having a shaft mounted thereto for rotation about its axis. The drive mechanism is provided to rotate the shaft about its axis. At least one mass is mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith. Each mass has a center of gravity which is moveable radially with respect to the shaft between the position in which the mass is rotationally balanced about the shaft and a position in which the mass is unbalanced. A control member in an operative connection between the mass and the frame is provided to constrain radial movement of the mass between the balanced position and the unbalanced position during each revolution thereof. When a mass is in the unbalanced position, the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the mass is transmitted to the control member, thereby generating a linear force in the controlled direction.

  • Patent number: 5357938
Abstract: A fuel supply control for an internal combustion engine designed to run on gaseous fuel (LPG or CNG) utilizes a feedback loop from a lambda sensor in the exhaust gases to a moving coil (82) mounted on a diaphragm (34) of a diaphragm-actuated valve (24) controlling the flow of gaseous fuel to the engine. The coil (82) is similar to the speaker coil of an audio speaker, and moves concentrically of a fixed permanent ring magnet (86) to impart a variable bias on the diaphragm(34) in accordance with the oxygen content of the exhaust gas stream as sensed by the lambda sensor, to control the fuel or air-and-fuel supply to the engine in accordance with desired engine operation parameters. The control has a sufficiently rapid and positive response that it can maintain the free oxygen content in the exhaust gases at substantially 2% for continuous operation of a catalytic exhaust purifier at or nearly at optimum efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5358121
Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating aluminum-based materials from non-aluminum materials is provided. The apparatus includes a conveyor which leads into a chute. Mixed materials which may be pre-shredded travel along the conveyor and into the chute. An adjustable air header assembly is provided at the end of the conveyor within the chute which directs an air stream generally upwardly and at an angle towards the end of the conveyor and the pieces of material thereon. A predetermined air velocity and air flow is selected such that the lighter aluminum materials are lifted and blown, or propelled, a fixed distance as they emerge from the end of the conveyor and the heavier non-aluminum materials fall short of that distance. Suitable collection bins are provided at the appropriate location. The apparatus and associated method used are particularly suited to separating used food and beverage can stock before it enters a recycling station.

  • Patent number: 5308063
Abstract: An adjustable golf club is provided having an elongated handle which is secured to a club head support, the club head support being pivotally secured to a club head. The club head has a planar striking face and a bottom surface. The pivotal axis at which the club head and the club head support are connected is perpendicular to the striking face. The pivotal connection permits the angular orientation between the handle and the bottom surface of the club head to be varied within a plane that is generally parallel to the striking face. A detent engaging the club head and club head support maintains the desired angular orientation between the handle and the bottom surface of the club head.

  • Patent number: 5304211
Abstract: An apparatus for administering electrical aversive stimulus is provided. The apparatus includes a remote transmitter, a receiver/stimulator, and an electrode. The receiver/stimulator is activated by an electromagnetic signal generated by the transmitter. In response, the receiver/stimulator generates an electrical stimulus pulse which is administered to the individual through the electrode. The receiver/stimulator and electrode are worn by the individual. Stimulation indicator means on the receiver/stimulator provides a positive indication that the stimulation has been administered to the individual. Various characteristics of the electrical stimulus pulse may be adjusted to vary the individual's perceived averseness of the stimulus. A method of treatment utilizing the apparatus of this invention is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5286005
Abstract: By means of an extended nozzle head having several excentrical nozzle receptions although the cutting oxygen is in line with the cutting jet bores, rotation of the nozzle head or of the total lower part of the burner can bring the working cutting nozzle into correspondence with a determined cutting line; being manifold equipped the thickness of a sample slice can be between two cutting nozzles selected by rotation or a spare nozzle can be put into operation quickly in case of breakdown. The nozzles for sample cutting or replacement are covered behind a protection plate against splash and flames. The protection plate can serve as well as a guide for a save pilot flame. The flexible connection of the adjustable burner and its gas supply is performed by metallic piping accordingly shaped and dimensioned.

  • Patent number: 5263606
Abstract: A squeeze container has a flexible tubular body and a separately molded bottom cover. The bottom cover has an axially facing continuous groove in which the open end of the tubular body seats with the end surface of the tube abutting the bottom surface of the groove. A radially outwardly extending flange spaced axially from the open end of the container has a bottom surface which abuts a top surface on a lip extending radially outward from the groove in the bottom cover. A tubular extension on the bottom cover radially inward of the groove has an outer surface which abuts the inner surface of the tubular body. Sonic energy directors in the form of continuous pointed ribs effect sonic welds between each of the sets of abutting surfaces to hermetically seal the bottom cover to the tubular body.

  • Patent number: 5222840
Abstract: An air conveyor moves light objects from one location to another and may also act as an accumulator for storing objects transported thereon. The conveyor has an elongated primary plenum and one or more elongated body members disposed over and in communication with the primary plenum through openings in the bottom wall of each body member. Each body member has a generally planar top deck disposed thereover. Each body member defines a secondary plenum between the top deck and the bottom wall of the body member. The top deck has a plurality of directional orifices formed therein. Blowers in communication with the primary plenum supply air to the secondary plenum through the primary plenum. The air from the secondary plenum is delivered through the directional orifices in the top deck and creates a current, or cushion, of air on which the objects move.
