Patent number: 5263670Abstract: A railway vehicle cab signalling system providing electrical signals to operate an aspect display unit or the like located on-board a railway vehicle based upon the track circuit signals typically used to operate wayside indicators. A sensor detects the track circuit current as it passes through at least one wheel and axle set on the vehicle. A processor receives an output signal from the sensor and produces a signal to operate the aspect display unit.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1992Date of Patent: November 23, 1993Assignee: Union Switch & Signal Inc.Inventors: Michael E. Colbaugh, Raymond C. Franke

Patent number: 5099965Abstract: The invention concerns a braking device with a piston that can be acted upon by a pressure medium from a pressure medium chamber against the force of a actuation spring. The piston is connected through an actuation arm with a brake linkage. In order to reduce the dimensions of the braking device, the actuation spring and the actuation arm are parallel and coaxial to each other, such that the actuation spring and the actuation arm are located between the moment arms of the brake linkage.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1990Date of Patent: March 31, 1992Assignee: WABCO Westinghouse Steuerungstechnik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Erhard Lehnert, Manfred Windel

Patent number: 5055962Abstract: The operation of an electromechanical relay is synchronized with the power line waveform where an electrical power supply is supplied from a source to an electrical load. The current voltage supplied to the load is characterized by a power line waveform. An electromechanical relay is positioned between the power supply and the load where contacts of the relay are opened and closed to interrupt and supply power to the load. A microcontroller is positioned between a power source and the electromechanical relay and actuates the relay so that the contacts are closed or opened at a preselected point on the power line waveform. Closure of the contacts at the preselected point is accelerated by supplying an increased power signal to the relay coil and thereafter returning the signal to the rated power.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1989Date of Patent: October 8, 1991Assignee: Digital Appliance Controls, Inc.Inventors: Gregory A. Peterson, Timothy Graff

Patent number: 4354518Abstract: A diaphragm type valve device comprising a housing having a pair of valve chambers separated by a diaphragm piston and connected to respective fluid pressure input ports, oppositely disposed valve seats fixed in the housing in facing relation to each side of the diaphragm piston and connected to respective output ports, a pair of valve members reciprocably disposed in a central bore in the diaphragm piston and being axially biased in opposite directions by a spring compressibly installed in the central bore between the valve members, one or the other of the valve members being seatable on one or the other of the valve seats when the diaphragm piston is axially displaced by dominating pressure acting on one or the other side thereof, and stop rings concentrically fixed in the central bore adjacent the respective ends thereof for limiting axial displacement of said valve members by the spring to a spaced-apart distance somewhat greater than the fixed axial distance between the valve seats.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1980Date of Patent: October 19, 1982Assignee: Nippon Air Brake Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yoichi Kuroda, Hideo Tamamori

Patent number: 4258957Abstract: This invention relates to a nose shoe for a mechanically driven cutter chain. The cylindrical nose shoe is capable of being indexed about a central pivot point so as to reposition the outermost surface to compensate for wear. The nose shoe is rotatable in distinct segments, and is locked during operation by means of bolts extending through the cutter assembly in the nose shoe.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1978Date of Patent: March 31, 1981Assignee: Joy Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Ralph W. Mitchell

Patent number: 4240669Abstract: A mining cutter bit holder and mounting assembly providing for positive engagement of the load bearing surfaces between the holder and mounting base. The bit holder and mounting base cooperate to support the bit against lateral forces and inhibit rotation of the holder within the socket in the base. Load support surfaces are arranged so that as the bit holder is clamped in the base and positive contact is made between surfaces. Bit support surfaces are provided at the front and rear of the bit holder.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1978Date of Patent: December 23, 1980Assignee: Joy Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Lester G. Rollins

Patent number: 4240296Abstract: A device is provided for measuring the torsional acceleration of a rotating body, and particularly for measurement of oscillatory torques such as the starting torque of a synchronous motor. The device consists of two identical accelerometers mounted on a rotating body at equal radii 180.degree. apart, and oriented so as to be insensitive to the outwardly directed radial forces present during acceleration.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1979Date of Patent: December 23, 1980Assignee: Joy Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Robert M. Kolodziej
