  • Patent number: 4385527
Abstract: An aircraft weighing system which includes substantially rectangular operator members (10) associated with jacks to support an aircraft (100). The operator member (10) includes a pair of central bearing beam members (51, 52) secured to opposite ends of a rigid load receiving member (53). The central bearing beam members (51, 52) are supported by side bearing beam members (31, 32, 41, 42) through rigid end members (63, 64) to maintain an angular relationship between ends of the beam members (31, 32, 41, 42, 51, 52) when loading is changed such that deflection of the beam members indicates the weight of the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 4369373
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating electricity from a generator driven by the flow of fluid flowing from a fluid producing well. A fluid driven motor is positioned in the pipeline adjacent to or above the well head such that the fluid passes through the motor to turn the motor shaft to drive the generator. By controlling the electrical load connected to the generator, the force required to drive the motor and thereby the pressure reduction across the motor can be controlled. The electricity produced by the generator may be used to heat the fluid in the pipe to prevent freezing of the fluid. The electricity can be utilized to heat the emulsion in an emulsion separator dehydrator for separating gas, water, and oil prior to its introduction into the pipeline. Separate motor may be utilized for gaseous fluid and liquids. Where the well produces both gas and liquid a separator is employed to separate the gas and liquid.

  • Patent number: 4354549
Abstract: A food processing unit and method of processing food uses a housing which receives vertically disposed layers of food product. The temperature of the fluid within the housing is controlled to process the food product. A pressurized fluid is supplied into the housing and the fluid within the housing is then induced to circulate by directing a flow of fluid from the pressurized fluid in a substantially horizontal direction through spaces between layers of the food product. The directed fluid flow may be distributed within the housing so that heat transferred in zones from the fluid throughout the layers of food product or the directed fluid may be redirected to flow in those spaces adjacent spaces through which the fluid is initially directed so that the flow of ambient fluid within the housing is induced to circulate around each layer of food product.

  • Patent number: 4341303
Abstract: A strip 10 of slips 12 is characterized by breaking portions 62,64 at which each individual clip 12a, 12b, 12c is separable from its longitudinal neighbors these portions being coextensive, longitudinally of the strip, with the line of separation 60 which divides off each clip from its longitudinal neighbors and which is formed without removal of material of the strip. This line is achieved by shearing the material of the strip while bowing it about a longitudinal axis so as to present a curved surface to an oncoming shearing tool which has an oppositely curved surface. The extent of intersection of the opposite curve defines the length of the line of the separation. The breaking portion is adjacent each end of the line. The clips during severence suffer apparent lateral contraction but no longitudinal distortion.

  • Patent number: 4337009
Abstract: A shock absorbing boat landing (10) is provided for attachment to a marine structure (14) such as an offshore platform or the like. The system (10) has a landing frame (16) which is supported by two pairs of upper and lower shock cells (22a and 22b). The landing frame (16) is pivotally coupled at (40 and 42) to the operative arms (26) of the shock element so that relative rotation between the operative arm (26) of the shock cells and the frame (16) can occur about a vertically extending axis whereby improved shock absorbing characteristics can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 4333530
Abstract: Method and apparatus for cementing a casing in a borehole in two distinct stages by connecting the tool of the invention in series relationship respective to the casing and running the entire tool string downhole into the borehole. The tool which connects the upper and lower casing strings together includes a coupling member actuated by relative movement between the upper and lower strings. The tool always captures the upper and lower casing strings to one another and when the tool is unlatched and the upper casing string lifted, a lateral flow passageway is opened which enables cement to be pumped downhole to the tool and laterally directly into the borehole annulus.

  • Patent number: RE31123
Abstract: A pipe section is provided having means on the end thereof for use in assembly in the section in series in a pipe system. The pipe section has a compressible seal mounted in a groove in the end. A frusto-conical shaped seal surface is formed on the interior of the female end adjacent the threads. The apex angle of the frusto-conical sealing surface, the lead of the screw threads and the allowable diametric clearance of the seal means are related to provide a pipe joint which allows 360 degrees or a full turn of relative rotation between coupled sections while providing an effective seal therebetween. The compressibility of the seal, the apex angle of the sealing surface and lead of the screw are also related to provide a makeup torque for interconnecting the sections which is in the range which can be applied by an ordinary worker by hand to the section without tools. Indicia means are provided on the exterior of the pipe to indicate allowable interengagement of the sections for effective sealing.
