Abstract: A near-field surface plasmon detector is provided. The near-field surface plasmon detector includes one or more semiconductor layers that absorb one or more surface plasmons of thin metal films in the vicinity of the semiconductor layer. The surface plasmons are excited by incoming light being emitted from a light emitting source. The metal films are also employed as electrical contacts used to capture photocurrent generated after absorption of surface plasmons by the semiconductor layers.

Abstract: A closed cycle heat transfer device comprising a boiler (10) and a condenser (13), the condenser being used to recover useful heat by latent heat evaporation. A circuit defined by the boiler (10), condenser (13) and ducts (12, 15) is to be liquid-filled at a pressure just above atmospheric pressure. An expansion device (16) maintains the working pressure in the circuit but will receive excess condensate in a liquid phase to compensate for expansion of the working fluid vapor which passes from the boiler (10) to the condenser (13). The expansion chamber contains a movable or flexible member which, when working liquid is received in the chamber, is displaced to compress a gas in the chamber.

An absorbance modulation layer (AML) is positioned in close proximity to the sample and is physically separate from the sample. One or more sub-wavelength apertures are generated within the AML, whose size is determined by the material properties of the AML and the intensities of the illuminating wavelengths. A light source transmits an optical signal through the one or more sub-wavelength apertures generating optical near-fields that are collected for imaging.

Abstract: Described is a compact, lower power gated ring oscillator time-to-digital converter that achieves first order noise shaping of quantization noise using a digital implementation. The gated ring oscillator time-to-digital converter includes a plurality of delay stages configured to enable propagation of a transitioning signal through the delay stages during an enabled state and configured to inhibit propagation of the transitioning signal through the delay stages during a disabled state. Delay stages are interconnected to allow sustained transitions to propagate through the delay stages during the enabled state and to preserve a state of the gated ring oscillator time-to-digital converter during the disabled state. The state represents a time resolution that is finer than the delay of at least one of the delay stages. A measurement module determines the number of transitions of the delay stages.
Abstract: There is provided an image processing apparatus including a character recognition section that executes character recognition on an input document image and outputs a character recognition result, an item name extraction section that extracts a character string relevant to an item name of an information item from the character recognition result, an item value extraction section that extracts a character string of an item value corresponding to the item name from the vicinity of the character string relevant to the item name in the document image, and an extraction information creation section that creates extraction information by associating the character string of the item value extracted by the item value extraction section to the item name.
Abstract: A first acquiring unit acquires a print target image. A storage unit has stored thereon a combination image to be combined with the print target image in association with a judgment condition for determining whether the combination image is combined with the print target image. A second acquiring unit acquires attribute values related to the print target image or a print environment when starting execution of printing of the print target image. A judging unit makes a judgment based on the attribute values acquired by the second acquiring unit and the judgment condition stored in the storage unit about whether the attribute values satisfy the judgment condition. A combination controller performs control to combine the combination image with the print target image when the judging unit judges that the attribute values satisfy the judgment condition.
Abstract: An infrared photodiode structure is provided. The infrared photodiode structure includes a doped semiconductor layer having ions of certain conductivity. An active photodetecting region is positioned on the doped semiconductor layer for detecting an infrared light signal. The active photodetecting region includes one or more amorphous semiconductor materials so as to allow for high signal-to-noise ratio being achieved by invoking carrier hopping and band conduction, under dark and illuminated conditions.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus has a processing condition setting section, a reference image processing section and a processing condition registration section. The processing condition setting section sets an image processing condition to input image data. The input image data is subjected to image processing according to the image processing condition. The reference image processing section performs the image processing on reference image data according to the image processing condition and generates processed reference image data. The processing condition registration section registers into a condition storage the processed reference image data with the image processing condition.
