  • Patent number: 6343610
Abstract: Disclosed is a process of recycling and reusing an aqueous degreasing solution for further use as a component of a coolant solution which is itself recycled and reused in metal cutting machines. Also disclosed is a method of degreasing parts, and a degreasing apparatus which is controlled such that an appropriate amount of the aqueous degreasing solution is introduced into the coolant solution. Finally, disclosed herein is a method and system for preparing a coolant in which an aqueous degreasing solution is further utilized as a feeder solution for a coolant solution, with the resulting solution being able to be separated into its component parts and reused in the cutting and cleaning of metals to form metal parts.

  • Patent number: 6183692
Abstract: A method for rapid purification of a blood component from blood is described in which the blood plasma is first separated from the cellular blood elements by any conventional means, such as centrifugation. An affinity cartridge is then activated with a molecule, such as an amino acid, which binds with a blood component such as plasminogen. The separated blood plasma is then passed through the affinity cartridge such that the blood component is retained by the affinity cartridge. Thereafter, the blood component is eluted from the affinity cartridge by passing a buffer solution containing a releasing agent through the affinity cartridge. This releasing agent disengages the blood component from the affinity cartridge. The releasing agent is then separated from the eluted solution by passing the eluted solution through a device, such as an ion exchange or size exclusion device. The separated blood component, e.g.

  • Patent number: 6152254
Abstract: A vehicle power steering system 10 achieves a substantially linear control relationship between an applied steering torque input T.sub.s and a resulting steering force output, that is, a powered assist to vehicle steering. The system 10 includes a reversible fluid pump 24 driven by an electric motor 26. A pair of fluid lines 20 and 22 supply pressurized fluid from the pump 24 and to the left and right ports 56 and 58 of a power cylinder 18. A pair of pressure transducers 54 and 55 sense the fluid pressures LP.sub.p and RP.sub.p in the lines 20 and 22. The pressure transducers 54 and 55 are connected to an electronic control 32 which establishes an internal closed servo control loop 322 or 342 over the powered assist to vehicle steering provided by the power cylinder 18, for example, over actuation of the motor 26. The system 10 is preferably regenerative and includes a variety of safety features which prevent system runaway and allow unencumbered manual steering in case of failure of the system.

  • Patent number: 6141837
Abstract: A clip for securing an interior molding to a vehicle frame. The clip includes a body having a first upwardly extending side and a second upwardly extending side. First and second flattened base plates extend in perpendicular and opposite fashion from terminating bottom edges of the upwardly extending sides and corresponding top edges of the sides are integrally connected to a substantially "U" shaped curved and interconnecting top portion. The base plates are spaced apart to define therebetween a central and vertical opening in the clip body for receiving in inserting fashion a thin and elongate projection of the trim piece or molding to be applied. From inwardly facing and opposing surfaces of the base plates extend inwardly and upwardly directed tangs for securing to the molding. First and second elongate and spring biased members extend in generally downwardly and first and second reverse bended fashion from the opposing edges of the "U" shaped interconnecting portion.

  • Patent number: 6068438
Abstract: This is a top lift rotary-crane transfer device and system especially suited for transferring cargo containers between a railway car and one or more conveyors or other vehicles or storage spots. It has a revolving loadspreader on the end of a revolving crane connected by chain and sprockets or gearing to cancel to hold the loadspreader in parallel positions while translating around a supporting column. Improved alignment columns on the loadspreader are carried above the ground and swing up to clear over containers set on a conveyor. The alignment columns align the loadspreader transversely over a container, well car, flat-bed trailer, or along a conveyor. The alignment of the loadspreader can be turned if desired to engage one end first and help clear an adjacent car.

  • Patent number: 6015013
Abstract: A lightweight intervention apparatus is described for use with a single bore intervention operation and which is suitable for use with a sub-sea horizontal tree with a tree cap and integral ball valve. The lightweight intervention apparatus is adapted to be coupled to the horizontal tree and that when so coupled the integral ball valve within the tree can be actuated via the intervention apparatus and cycled between an open and a closed position. The annulus line within the horizontal tree is adapted to be coupled through the lightweight intervention apparatus to a separate annulus line such that the annulus line is separate from the main bore to facilitate control of the annulus for certain well functions. A significant advantage of this arrangement is that the internal diameter of the main bore is not reduced in any way by apparatus or equipment for separating the annulus line from the main bore so that full bore diameter may be used.

  • Patent number: 5991995
Abstract: An apparatus for removing an outer layer from a portion of a multi layer tube is disclosed. The apparatus includes a support assembly which holds the portion of the tube at a preset position. A nozzle is fluidly connected to a source of high pressure water and has its outlet directed towards the portion of the tube. A relative, rotary motion about a concentric axis between the nozzle and the tube directs the water such that it removes the outer layer from the tube portion around the entire circumfery of the tube. In one embodiment, the nozzle is held stationary while the tube portion is rotated relative to the nozzle while in a second embodiment the tube portion is held stationary while the nozzle is rotated relative to the tube portion. The apparatus is particularly useful for removing an outer nylon covering from a metal tube.

  • Patent number: 5904420
Abstract: An improved frame is disclosed for automatic paint stirring equipment of the type which stirs cans of paint in a side-by-side relationship. Each can includes a cover having a stirring element rotatably mounted to the cover and a driven member secured to the stirring element. The improved frame includes a plurality of substantially identical drive assemblies wherein each drive assembly includes a drive mechanism for engaging and rotatably driving the drive members on the paint can covers. Each drive assembly furthermore includes an elongated planar top having two ends and which forms a shelf for supporting the paint cans. At least one, and preferably two, connectors are secured to each end of each drive assembly. Each connector has an upper and lower cylindrical portion which extend respectively above and below its associated drive assembly. A plurality of elongated tubular cylindrical supports then secure the drive assemblies together in a spaced apart and parallel relationship.

  • Patent number: 5888629
Abstract: A medium for ink jet imaging includes a bottom layer of material having a very high absorption for the polar, solvent component of an ink jet imaging ink, together with a top layer of image receptor material disposed in fluid communication therewith. The bottom layer has a very high affinity for the solvent component of the ink and tends to draw the solvent from a body of ink thereby preventing image spread and producing a localized, highly saturated image.

  • Patent number: 5887083
Abstract: A method of processing image information is disclosed, for recognizing the position and attitude of an object with a high speed treatment and improved recognition accuracy. The method comprised of the steps of entry of a stereoscopic image of an object, extraction of edges of the object, and dividing it into segments based on the local feature of the image, adding the apex information to the segments to produce the recognition data, verifying the recognition data with reference to an object model based on local geometric features to detect a corresponding candidate; finely adjusting each of corresponding candidates based on an entire geometric features; and detecting the position and attitude of the object on the basis of recognition including the initial verification and the fine adjustment.
