  • Patent number: 7688323
Abstract: The present invention consists of an evaluation engine, which is a system for evaluating the state of an animation at a specific time where secondary animation may be derived from the state of the animation at another time. Unlike DAG-based systems where time is another variable, time is external to the evaluation engine so that it can easily evaluate alternate times and even entire simulations. It also comprises meshes which support instancing and edge weights, and which employ and extensible system of polygon types to support subdivision surface approximation using a set of bi-quadratic patches which solve quickly. The meshes can also be animated by the evaluation engine using a mesh stack, which has multiple evaluation paths for quickly computing mesh attributes without performing a full evaluation.

  • Patent number: 7686235
Abstract: A check valve assembly has a valve seat for positioning in a passageway between a water supply and an outlet device such as a sprinkler head or a pipe section. A disc valve is located on the water supply side of the valve seat, and a separate actuator is movably mounted on the opposite side of the seat for movement between an operative position extending through the valve seat to hold the valve in the open position, and an inoperative, retracted position. The disc valve is moved by the actuator into the open position when the sprinkler head is located at the outlet. Release or removal of the actuator as a result of removal of the sprinkler head or other outlet device will allow fluid pressure at the fluid supply end of the passageway to urge the valve into the closed position.

  • Patent number: 7624987
Abstract: In the present invention, a method is provided for biasing or controlling the deal of cards, or other indicia, to players of a game. The cards are biased such that each player in the game will receive a hand that is close in ranking to all the other players of the game. Each player of the game is assigned a deviation multiplier selected from a list. Next an initial single hand rank is randomly selected and each player's deviation number is used to identify a range of hand rankings from which each player's hand is selected. If the initial hand ranking is 50 and the average deviation for a player is 2, the player's hand ranking will be in the range of 50±(10×deviation multiplier) or 50±(20) which is 30-70. (i.e. 50±20 or 50?20=30 and 50+20=70). Biasing the deal of the cards increases the excitement and competition of the game by allowing all players of the game to have relatively close hand rankings.

  • Patent number: 7614189
Abstract: An arched member such as a jamb is made from three parts. The first part is an elongate strip having upper and lower faces, opposite sides, and opposite first and second ends, with elongate grooves extending along the opposite sides. The other parts are a pair of elongate side pieces each slidably engaged in a respective one of the grooves. The strip and side pieces are formed together into an arch having a predetermined curvature with the opposite ends of the side pieces flush with the opposite ends of the strip. The formed member is sufficiently flexible to enable it to be forced into a flat condition for shipping. When forced flat, at least one end of each side piece will project out from the respective end of the strip. The projecting ends provide indicators to allow a user to correct the curvature of the member after release from the flat condition.

  • Patent number: 7584968
Abstract: A poker card game and apparatus and software for its play are disclosed, particularly adapted for casino play, in which each player in a given game, using only a single dealt hand, plays simultaneously separately against the dealer (the house) and against the other players. Betting for the two lines of play may be separate or linked, and a player can elect to play only against the dealer or to play both games together. The game is played as a form of five-card stud with betting before each deal. At the end of each game a player's status as to whether he/she beat the dealer, beat the other players or both is determined and displayed, and winners are paid accordingly. Conventional dealing may be used, but it is preferred that a biased deal, which enhances the opportunities for players to be dealt reasonably good poker hands, be used.

  • Patent number: 7548974
Abstract: In a computer network environment, a server protocol is provided to process read requests from clients. Rather than all read requests being processed synchronously or all read requests being processed asynchronously, an attempt is first made to perform a synchronous read. If the synchronous read is unsuccessful, the connection through which the request was received by the server is registered with a monitoring service. When the data is ready to be read, an appropriate callback is called and the data transmitted. An optional delay may be imposed before the synchronous read is attempted to increase the likelihood that the attempt will be successful. A series of delays/read attempts may also be employed in order to increase the likelihood still further that an attempt will be successful.
