Abstract: A door lock for use with an auxiliary door holding mechanism that is in addition to the conventional door lock. An auxiliary door holding plate is adaptable to be locked and unlocked from outside the door by means of a conventional key-actuated driver bar. The door holding plate may also be locked from inside the door. The door holding plate also permits the door to be held against further opening from a partially open position. In one of the embodiments of the invention a device is employed for swinging the auxiliary locking plate from an unlocked position to a locked position by the closing movement of the door. By another embodiment of the invention the auxiliary locking plate is moved from unlocked position to locked position from outside the door after the latter has been closed.

Abstract: Wheel structures are made removable from the body which they support. Each wheel structure includes a solid wheel which is normally imperforate between the hub and the rim and an axle on which the wheel is rotatably secured. The web of each wheel between the hub and the rim is provided with apertures complementarily formed relative to the axles for receiving the axle or axles of another wheel or wheels therethrough to permit nesting the wheel structures.

Abstract: The seeds to be sown are coated with a coating substantially comprising a saccharide such as glucose by mixing the seed with a saccharide solution prior to seeding. At the same time a fungicide and nutrients to improve germination may be added. The additional weight imparted to the seed by the glucose enhances the probability that the seed will be spread evenly on the seed bed, particularly when the latter is covered with water.

Abstract: A multisided guard for guarding a space containing, for example, a hazardous operation from which personnel are to be protected. The guard comprises a plurality of vertically extending walls, each comprising a pair of upper and lower panels which are adapted to be swung from a lower position covering the space to an upper position uncovering the space.

Abstract: A lock of rugged construction for preventing theft of a motorcycle. When the cycle is parked the brake is applied and a holding device is employed to hold the brake mechanism in locked position. In one form of the invention a traveling nut is employed for so holding the brake mechanism. Access to the device is prevented by means of a key actuated removable lock. In another form of the invention a wedge is employed in the holding device and a removable key actuated lock is connected to said wedge.

Abstract: A lock for preventing theft of a motorcycle. When the cycle is parked the brake is applied so that a detent holds the brake mechanism in locked position. The detent is actuatable by a key for releasing the brake.

Abstract: A wheeled suitcase wherein the wheels are easily removed and attached to the suitcase. The axles of the wheels are received in sleeves which are integrally connected to the hinges of the suitcase in order to facilitate manufacture. A detent is provided for releasably securing the axles in place. In one form of the invention the detent is protected from damage by a housing which is also integral with the hinges.

Abstract: A toilet tank flush valve which can be operted to provide a full or partial flush of the fluid contents of the tank. An auxiliary operating arm is provided so as to cooperate with the conventional valve actuating mechanism and at the same time not interfere with the operation of such mechanism. The operating arm cooperates with the conventional mechanism so that upon actuation of said arm the mechanism effects only a partial opening of the flush valve from a closed position.

Abstract: A dropper is secured to a leader by a swivel connection with the inner end of the dropper rigidly secured to the connector so that the hook end of the dropper is spaced horizontally outwardly from the leader to obviate snagging of the hook on the leader and to prevent entanglement of the dropper and the leader.

Abstract: A door latch for providing security in addition to that afforded by conventional key operated locks. A bar holds the door in its locked position and cooperates with a swingable plate for holding the door in a partially opened position.

Abstract: A banding machine for feeding sleeves of banding material onto bottle necks and the like when the sleeves are of tough material requiring use of a sharp cutting edge. The mandrel along which the tubular banding material is fed is formed to provide a radially outwardly opening groove at which the cutter cuts the material. The groove is closed when the mandrel and material are moved relatively.

Abstract: An edge finder adapted to be secured to the chuck of a tool such as a drill press, vertical mill, jig bore and the like, to permit the user to align the center line of the rotating tool with an edge of a work piece. A housing is provided which is adapted to be secured within the chuck or like securing means on the rotatable spindle of the tool. A slide is provided in sliding abutment with an end of the housing and is yieldably held against the end of the housing by means of a spring thereby permitting lateral movement of the slide relative to the housing end. A finger adapted to engage an edge of the work piece is rotatably supported at one end in the slide and is shaped at its other end so as to permit the user to obtain an accurate alignment of the center line of the tool and the edge of the work piece.

Abstract: A magnetic card reader for providing an output to a utilization device. A plurality of reed switches are arranged in coplanar relationship and means is provided for maximizing the flux of magnetized spots of a magnetically coded card so that a predetermined magnetized spot actuates a predetermined reed switch of the reader without requiring any internal magnetic biasing. The flux of the magnetized spots is maximized by providing relatively large contiguous areas of a polarity reversed from that of the magnetized spot which actuates a switch.

Abstract: A safety guard structure including a guard member adapted to be interposed between a mechanism such as a punch press and the operator thereof to protect the operator from injury. In one form of the invention the guiding frame for guiding the guard member between its upper and lower positions is swingably connected to the mechanism to be guarded to permit the entire guiding frame to be swung upwardly so as to present no interference when it is desired to modify the mechanism or to change the dies thereof. In another form of the invention the guide structure for the guard member is entirely positioned above the area to be protected so as to present no interference when it is necessary for operators to work around the machine. An interlocking device is provided to prevent operation of the mechanism except when the guard member and its guide structure are in proper operating position.

Abstract: The ground wheels of a wheeled suitcase are provided with axles, and mounting means are formed on the suitcase to permit the axles to be readily secured and removed.

Abstract: A door lock structure adapted to be actuated by a magnetic card key and to actuate a conventional cylindrical door lock with substantially no modification to such door lock. A housing containing the magnetically operated elements of the lock is mounted coaxially relative to the cylinder plug of the conventional lock. Insertion of a properly coded magnetic card releases a locking bar which normally holds the structure in locked position, and the entire assembly may be turned to retract the latch or dead bolt.

Abstract: A dampening apparatus for a lithographic press in which a train of rollers conducts dampening fluid from a pan to the form roller or applicator roller of the press that is in contact with the printing plate. The fluid is conducted from a pan roller to a metering roller and then to a transfer roller which is in rolling engagement with and rotating at the same peripheral speed as the form roller. Variation in the amount of dampening fluid which is transferred to the form roller is achieved by driving the pan roller and intermediate roller directly from a separate source of power and permitting the remaining rollers of the train to be driven from the printing plate or inking rollers. By varying the speed of rotation of the pan roller and intermediate roller the amount of fluid transferred to the form roller may be varied to the end that the exact amount of water required by the form roller may be provided.

Abstract: The ground wheels of a wheeled suitcase are provided with a mount and a socket is fixed to the suitcase to permit the wheels to be readily secured and removed. The socket provided on the suitcase is of minimal thickness and formed so as to obviate snagging with adjacent articles while the suitcase is being transported in the normal manner without wheels.

Abstract: A safety guard structure for protecting personnel from injury while operating a machine such as a punch press. The guard member is supported at three points for vertical movement between upper and lower positions. At two upper points the guard is supported on rollers which roll on vertically extending parallel guides and at one lower point the guard is centrally supported on the lower end of a vertically extending rod slidable in fixed bearings. The resulting structure is not only economical to build but gives optimum guiding effect for the guard. The embodiment disclosed permits the entire guard structure to be swung outwardly to a position permitting access to the machine above the protected area.

Abstract: A form of gearing with teeth having circular arc profiles and a particular pressure angle which together produce engagement and disengagement in pure rolling. The shearing action tangential to the tooth profiles associated with compressive deformation of the tooth faces is made to exactly offset the shearing action in the opposite direction imposed by the meshing of the teeth.
