  • Patent number: 8103259
Abstract: A system and method for optimization of media objects for delivery to one of a plurality of mobile communication devices of different types and rendering thereon. In particular, the media objects are optimised according to the mobile device's characteristics to ensure efficient delivery and optimal rendering thereon. For this purpose, an optimised output of the media object is determined at a first stage. At a subsequent stage, based on the mobile device type, the characteristics of the object to be delivered are then adjusted to conform to those of the predetermined optimised output, thus ensuring that the rendering of the optimised media object on the mobile device output is of high quality.

  • Patent number: 8094292
Abstract: An interferometric method and system enabling light echoes-to-spectrum mapping, applicable for laser rangefinder, biomedical imaging including surface 3D mapping and tomography, vehicle position identification, and spectrum analysis. The direct mapping into spectrum allows a time-of-flight detection without using any timing pulse modulation. The sensitivity of the detection can be as high as that of the conventional low coherence interferometry, thereby an eye-safe and low-cost solution not compromising performance. In a practical implementation, high accurate range detection can be easily achievable with the level of accuracy equivalent to the laser rangefinder using a 20 ps Full-Width-at-Half-Maximum (FWHM) timing pulse. The system and method comprise applying dispersion-unbalanced interference (referred to as ‘cross-chirp interference’) and gating a phase matched spectral component.

  • Patent number: 8075198
Abstract: A connector assembly for reversibly terminating an optical fiber comprises a housing having a cavity extending along a longitudinal axis. An elongate member having a groove extending along a surface thereof is provided within the cavity. An end portion of the fiber is aligned with a fiber stub within the groove such that the stub's splicing face is positioned opposite the fiber's splicing face. A splice anvil is mounted about the member with the anvil's clamping surface overlapping the abutting stub and fiber splicing faces. The clamping mechanism comprises step surfaces arranged along the member's surface adjacent the groove. When the anvil is moved from the released position to the clamped position, the anvil's inner surface is moved along the step surfaces in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis towards the groove, the anvil's clamping surface bringing a clamping force to bear on the abutting fiber and fiber stub.

  • Patent number: 8053469
Abstract: This invention relates to improved solutions comprising ascorbic acid (vitamin C). These solutions may comprise as much as 15% ascorbic acid; they are stable for at least two years, without no significant development of yellowish coloration and no substantial (not more than 10%) degradation of the vitamin. The process involves sequential additions of ascorbic acid and ethoxydiglycol to a first solution of vitamin in water, which are followed by addition of propylene glycol. The high stirring speed that occurs during the additions favors a process of micronization. Mild heating is used to achieve ascorbic acid concentrations equivalent to about 6% in 10% water or higher.

  • Patent number: 8047327
Abstract: A muffler for mounting to a handheld pneumatic tool, such as a die grinder. The muffler comprises a hollow open-ended casing having an inner wall lined with a thick layer of an insulating material. The muffler is sleeve mounted about a coupler positioned between an exhaust end of the pneumatic tool and an air adapter supplying compressed air to the pneumatic tool for operation thereof. A plate comprising a plurality of perforations is positioned at a first face of the casing adjacent the air adapter. A biasing member is further placed between the plate and the air adapter for biasing a second face of the casing against the exhaust end. In this manner, during operation of the pneumatic tool, released air expelled at the exhaust end is directed through the casing to reduce a level of the noise at the exhaust end.
