  • Patent number: 3995359
Abstract: A machine for inserting quilting buttons of the type described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,701,174 includes a multiple displacement upper piston mechanism with movable upper button feed means and a dual displacement lower piston mechanism and a movable lower button feed mechanism. Upon an open work bed between the upper and lower mechanisms, a quilt or the like is positioned so that actuation of the machine to pick up button parts and insert them in the quilt causes the two mechanisms to come together on opposite sides of the quilt and for the female button portion to be forced through the quilt, followed by forcing of the male button portion through the female portion. Retraction of the mechanisms leaves the quilting button inserted through the quilt and the mechanisms in condition for another button insertion.

  • Patent number: 3984838
Abstract: An electrically small, directive, low backlobe broadband antenna is described. The antenna comprises a pair of radiators. Each of the radiators comprises a pair of orthogonally oriented stripline sections carried on a thin substrate. In one embodiment the radiators are carried on separate substrates placed side by side with a small separation. In another embodiment, the radiators are carried on opposite sides of the same substrate. In each of the embodiments, the radiators are mounted adjacent to a ground plane. A first one of the orthogonal sections is spaced from and extends parallel to the ground plane. The second of the orthogonal sections extends from the first section to the ground plane and is adapted at that point for coupling to the center conductor of a coaxial cable. Means are also provided for coupling the outer conductor or shield of the cable to the ground plane. A resistor is further provided coupled between the ground plane and the free end of each of the first sections of the radiators.

  • Patent number: 3980953
Abstract: A delta modulator produces a digital bit stream from an input analog waveform and applies same to bit-averaging circuitry dividing the bit stream into time-frame intervals and computing the average slope per frame. Each average time-frame slope value is transmitted over a communication system as a discrete digital signal and at a receiver each such signal is employed to set the gain of a multi-level integrator and thus incrementally reconstruct the original waveform.
