Abstract: A semiconductor device comprises electrically isolated semiconductor segments embedded in a common crystalline substrate. Each of the semiconductor segments is electrically isolated from the other segments and from the substrate by an insulating film disposed therebetween. The substrate, the semiconductor segments, and the insulating film are thermally compatible over a wide temperature range, so that the insulating film also serves to effect a bond between the substrate and the segments.

Abstract: A constant velocity universal or universal and sliding joint includes an inner element, an outer element and an even number of balls engaged by opposite and crossing grooves formed on the two elements. The axial sliding of one element with respect to the other is prevented or limited at the ends of the slip by means of the mating contact of two spherical surfaces formed or put on the ends of the inner element with two spherical surfaces formed on cups fixed to the ends of the outer element.
Abstract: Phase holograms are recorded in the visible with high efficiency by the use of a transparent photosensitive recording composition containing a transparent thermochromic electrochromic or photochromic compound capable of forming a chromatic sensitizer temporarily in situ in the composition when under the influence of external physical excitation appropriate to the nature of the compound, namely heat, an electric field or irradiation. In the process of recording, the physical excitation is applied and maintained during the duration of the recording, whereafter the physical excitation is terminated and the recording composition becomes transparent again leaving the recording constituted solely by local refractive index variations.
Abstract: A concreting rig for use in construction by the cantilever method of an elevated, elongated civil engineering work, such as a bridge, elevated road, roof or the like, by in situ concreting longitudinally consecutive sections of the work with the rig overhanging beyond the already completed portion of the work, comprises a rigid structural frame which is longitudinally pressed against the already completed portion of the work, by means of tensioned prestressing members. The rig bears on the already completed work portion by way of at least three abutment devices each of which engages with a complementarily-shaped locating print in the completed work portion, means being provided for predetermining the position of each locating print in dependence upon the geometric characteristics of the work and the position therein, of the section to be concreted.

Abstract: A holder for a battery cassette which has, at its front portion, a pair of terminals of dry cells juxtaposed therein and, at its rear portion, a releasable lid which defines a projecting flange in cooperation with the rear edge of the battery cassette. The battery cassette holder has a window in the base board thereof through which the battery cassette is mounted on said holder, a terminal mounting board provided with a pair of resilient terminals for making resilient contact with said terminals of the battery cassette and a fixing board provided with a notch for receiving the upper side of said projecting flange when the battery casette is mounted in position, thereby to snugly and rigidly hold the battery cassette.
Abstract: A knitting machine in which the needle selection is performed electromagnetically from a programmed control. Selectors having spring return means are adapted to occupy an operative position in which they engage means for moving the needles to their working position. The selectors are attached to the knitting machine frame and are moved against said spring means by cocking members mechanically connected to the knitting machine needle bed drive means. An electromagnetic holding means attached to the machine frame and associated with the cocking members is arranged selectively to hold the selectors in the cocked position when driven by a programmed control synchronised with the needle bed movement and with the selection device.
