Abstract: Small animals and particularly the galliformes such as chickens are raised in a housing having a plurality of intercommunicable rooms, each of the rooms comprising progressively larger areas and each of said rooms being provided with independently controlled, heating, ventilating, lighting and feeding means, and means for progressively moving the small animals sequentially through each such room at a rate such that the animals are at a predetermined maturity upon departure from the last of the rooms.
Abstract: A barrier for water carried pollutants comprises a series of end to end connectable boom sections containing a flotable material; fluid impervious connectors for the ends of the boom sections; flexible draft members and associated connectors for maintaining the integrity of the boom if it becomes necessary to replace one or more of the boom sections, wherein the flotable material comprises a plurality of closed-cell foam, hollow, cylindrical blocks and end closure members for each end of each block.
Abstract: Two cycle internal combustion engines including a cylinder which is provided with one or more exhaust ports adapted to be closed by piston reciprocating in the cylinder. A valve member is provided in co-operation with the upper portion or upper one of the exhaust ports. Said valve member may be interconnected with the engine throttle valve in such a manner that it is closed under lower speed operation and opened under high speed operation of the engine so as to obtain optimum exhaust valve timing throughout the engine operating speed range.
Abstract: A fluid-fluid heat exchanger comprises a plurality of flexible synthetic tubes extending in a curved path between a pair of headers with the tubes being maintained in a plurality of spaced apart superimposed layers by a plurality of spaced apart generally radially disposed spacers.
Abstract: A surgical clip, particularly adapted to produce necrosis in Fallopian tube tissue, consists of jaws hinged adjacent one end and a U-shaped spring which holds the jaws open in one position and exerts a closing pressure on the jaws in another position. When the spring is in the jaws closing position, the bridge portion thereof in conjunction with side flanges carried by one of the jaws provides a smoothly contoured hinge end thereby reducing to a minimum zones for the entrapment of tissue which might be the cause of adhesions.

Abstract: A hydrocarbon containment and control system consists of forming a porous woven container having at least one hand grip along one edge seam, at least one opening through a pair of opposed side walls but closed to the interior of the container and an open seam, filing the container through the open seam with an oleophilic-hydrophobic-lighter than water hydrocarbon absorbent, closing the open seam, and thereafter placing the filled container in the path of hydrocarbons to be selectively absorbed.
Abstract: A barrier for water carried pollutants comprises a series of end to end connectable boom sections with each section comprising a flexible tubular sleeve and a depending skirt. The tubular sleeves contain a plurality of inflatable tubular chambers extending substantially the entire length of the flexible sleeve. Each of the tubular chambers terminating at least at one end of the sleeve in inflation valve means. In a preferred form of the invention there are seven tubular chambers carried in each tubular sleeve.
Abstract: Aquatic sports zones are reclaimed or made by bounding non-shore areas of the zone with a plurality of end-to-end connected water impervious flotation boom sections, anchoring the formed boom in the bound zone, and attaching the ends of the boom to pier bulkheads, and providing the boom with a ballasted skirt having a length greater than the maximum normally anticipated water depth at the point of attachment of the skirt to the boom. Where desired, water purification means may be included in the bound zone.
Abstract: A tumbler pin-type cylinder lock wherein the lock cylinder is mounted for controlled axial or axial and radial movement relative to the lock cylinder housing characterized in that the cylinder is provided with a safety cover and the key and the cylinder have cooperating surfaces for axially shifting the cylinder toward a device actuating position. The cooperating surfaces may comprise the first tumbler and a cooperating portion of the key or the most inner end of the key and a cooperating surface on the cylinder. The assembly also includes a fixed pin in the lock housing which engages a track or groove on the cylinder to thereby control the axial and/or axial and radial positioning of the cylinder relative to the lock housing.
Abstract: Substrate such as relatively porous, low thermally conductive materials are coated with molten lead, lead-base alloys, zinc, zinc-base alloys, tin, tin-base alloys, cadmium, cadmium-base alloys, aluminum, aluminum-base alloys and the like by spreading the molten metal by means of a low thermally conductive roll to provide products useful in sound attenuation, moisture and corrosion proofing and radiation shielding.

Abstract: A structural module is provided having at least three triangular prismatic elements arranged such that a similar quadrangular sidewall of each prismatic element forms a common quadrangular wall of the entire module.
Abstract: A surgical razor blade intended for one time use in shaving hair has an integral guard in the form of spiral windings of a fine flexible thread with the windings extending in uniformly spaced fashion around the blade cutting edge. The thread has a diameter within the range of 0.2 mm (0.0078 inches) to 1.0 mm (0.039 inches) and the spacing between adjacent windings of the thread is within the range of 1.0 mm (0.039 inches) to 4.0 mm (0.157 inches).
Abstract: A drill holding chuck is provided having particular utility for use with a drill sharpening tool. The chuck includes an outer tubular housing having cylindrical ends rotably receivable in bearing members to provide spaced support for the chuck and the jaw closing force is applied to the chuck jaws about midway of their length.
