  • Patent number: 4977866
Abstract: A movable wall member is mounted in the intake runner of an internal combustion engine manifold and connected to an actuator plate in the manifold plenum which moves the wall member in a longitudinal direction to increase the effective runner length. A rigid link or end panel is pivotally connected to the other end of the wall member and to the associated runner wall so that longitudinal movement of the wall member results in simultaneous transverse movement thereby reducing the effective cross-sectional flow area of the runner passage. The movable wall members of multiple runner passages are connected to a common actuator plate in the manifold plenum which reduces the effective plenum volume upon displacement of the actuator plate.

  • Patent number: 4966401
Abstract: The present invention provides a truck frame-mounted tool box glide system that can carry a hinged-lid type tool box. The glide system can store the tool box out of the way beneath a truck flat bed. The system permits the tool box to be pulled laterally out from the side of the truck until the box lid is completely exposed so that the lid can be swung upward to fully expose the box interior. Such a system permits full utilization of the tool box interior, even for heavy objects that can be lifted vertically into and out of the box. The system may provide for dual tool box mountings, where one tool box is mounted to each side of the truck.

  • Patent number: 4848671
Abstract: A high pressure water/abrasive jet cutting nozzle has a pair of centering rings that act through body-mounted balls to position a nozzle element-holding collet. The interior surfaces of the centering rings are eccentric with respect to the longitudinal axis of the nozzle assembly so that rotation of a centering ring will cause the nozzle element collet to shift transversely. By rotating one or the other, or both, centering rings the axis of the nozzle element can be adjusted relative to the nozzle jet-forming element so as to align the nozzle element with the water jet.

  • Patent number: 4828875
Abstract: Sintered films of Cd.sub.1-x Zn.sub.x S (0.ltoreq.x<1) with high optical transmittance are provided. These films are produced by applying a paste composed of powdered CdS and CdCl.sub.2 or of a mixture of CdS, ZnS and CdCl.sub.2 onto an appropriate substrate such as borosilicate glass, under an inert gas atmosphere containing ZnCl.sub.2 vapor or thereafter resintering the paste on the substrate under a nitrogen atmosphere. The ZnCl.sub.2 vapor is produced by heating ZnCl.sub.2 at 400.degree. C. or higher but below the temperature of 500.degree.-700.degree. C. to which the specimen is heated. The resulting sintered films have optical transmittance of 80% at long wavelength ranges or higher and can be used as a window layer having a superior optical transmittance in solar cells.

  • Patent number: 4778285
Abstract: An external lubricant reservoir of the type that is replenished by injection is provided in the form of a flexible membrane sealed to a lubricant distributor. The lubricant distributor consists of a membrane-mounting disk and a lubricant feed tube. The feed tube communicates with the reservoir interior through a passage in the disk. The feed tube is designed to be inserted into a lubricant passage in the housing of a joint or a bearing. A preferred embodiment of the reservoir enables the membrane to be wedged between a joint or bearing housing and the underside of the membrane-mounting disk to effect a sealed connection between the two.

  • Patent number: 4775082
Abstract: A catch bag has a flat lid of resilient material which is hinged to a frame around the opening of the bag. A diametrical slit in the lid allows easy insertion of articles, such as speared fish, with one hand while the lid retains articles securely inside the bag. When access to the contents of the bag is desired, the hinged lid facilitates emptying of the bag. An elastic wrist cord opposite the hinge can be used to keep the bag near at hand while leaving the user's hand free, and also to hold the hinged lid shut. A carrying handle is attached along a side of the bag for convenient transporting of the bag on dry land.

  • Patent number: 4739236
Abstract: There is disclosed a portable system to control and monitor the basic maneuvering functions of marine vessels: The control and monitoring functions are contained on a hand held, small and lightweight consul which can be plugged into multi-pin sockets which are wired from various remote places of the ship to a central electronics logic and control module matrix. Switches on the portable helm control the electronic module matrix which powers servo motors mechanically linked to: engines' throttle controls, shift forward-neutral-reverse controls, and steering apparatus. Feedback loops monitor the positions of these maneuvering functions. Monitored on the portable helm are: rudder angle, engines' idle status, forward, neutral and reverse status of each drive trian, power on, and engines' synchronization.
